He led the country in a number of blocks and blocked shots per game at the collegiate level, improving his offensive game to earn 2000 points and 1000 rebounds during his college career.
Mourning posted the highest scoring average by a rookie in Charlotte’s entire franchise history. He was picked second overall and immediately broke out as a star, becoming an integral part of their playoff run. After a missed attempt into the knockout stages, Mourning rallied his team together in 1995 to make the playoffs once again but was eliminated. The Hornets offered him an $11 million extension but Mourning chose to reject it and was subsequently traded to the Miami Heat.
