She was born in Nice, France to Francis and Patricia Cornet. Cornet also has a brother Sebastien and both of them were encouraged by their parents to get involved in sports. Alize Cornet started playing tennis when she was just 4 years old. Her brother also played tennis but his success was limited. Sebastien decided to hang up his playing boots and became his sister’s agent. Cornet’s junior career was a good one as she won the French Open girls’ title in 2007.

She turned pro in 2006. Cornet was a tough competitor, especially on clay. She received a singles main-draw wildcard in the 2005 French Open. She was ranked 645th when she entered the tournament. Cornet has won six singles and three doubles titles on the WTA Tour, as well as three singles and three doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. On 16 February 2009, she reached her highest WTA singles ranking of world No. 11.

Her form got better in the Bad Homburg Open where she reached the semi-final before losing to Caroline Garcia in three sets. The Wimbledon followed and Cornet stopped the incredible run of world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the third round. Cornet could not go beyond the round of 16 though.
