Predicted Tottenham XI to face PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League

It is a must-win game for both sides as Tottenham Hotspur make the trip to Philip Stadion to face Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men could have bagged all three points from their matchday one fixture against Inter Milan but were denied anything courtesy of some late heroics from the home side. Following that, the Lilywhites had no answer to Barcelona’s brilliance at Wembley and went down 4-2 to the Spanish giants.

PSV have had a similar campaign so far, having gone down 4-0 to Barcelona and 2-1 to Inter Milan in their first two games.

As things stand, both the teams are without a point heading into matchday three and they will have to turn their fortunes around if they are to challenge Barcelona and Inter Milan for a place in the last 16.

Spurs will be without the services of Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen and Victor Wanyama, all of whom are unlikely to make the trip due to thigh injuries.

Danny Rose is yet to recover completely from his groin problem while Vincent Janssen is out for the count with a long-term injury.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Mauricio Pochettino

Predicted XI

Hugo Lloris (GK)

Looked shaky against Barcelona but rightfully earned a clean sheet against West Ham United with three top-class saves and should continue between the sticks.

Kieran Trippier (RB)

Perhaps the most-balanced player in the Premier League. He has been in good form and could play a key role on Wednesday.

Davinson Sanchez (CB)

He was totally off the pace against Barcelona and looked anything but solid against West Ham but he is the best that Spurs have at the moment.

Toby Alderweireld (CB)

He will be entrusted with the responsibility of marshalling the backline in Jan Vertonghen’s absence.

Ben Davies (LB)

The Englishman looked pretty solid at the back and ventured occasionally into the other half. Pochettino should hand him another start.

Harry Winks (CDM)

The youngster seems to be growing in confidence with every passing game. He caught the eye against Barcelona and came up with another composed display at the weekend.

Eric Dier (CDM)

His physical presence and tidy passing in central midfield are invaluable to the Lilywhites and he must continue his fine form.

Lucas Moura (LW)

Industrious, skilful and agile as ever, Pochettino should continue relying on the Brazilian to deliver the goods in the final third.

Christan Eriksen

Although he has been declared fit, Eriksen did not start against West Ham but should replace Moussa Sissoko in the starting line-up for the Champions League tie.
