Everton should beat their Premier League rivals to sign Godsway Donyoh

According to the Sun, Everton, Leicester City and Bournemouth are closely monitoring FC Nordsjealland’s attacker Godsway Donyoh.

The 24-year-old Ghanaian has scored seven goals from 11 appearances in the Danish top-flight this season, including a hat-trick in one of the games.

The immensely talented Ghanaian ace graduated from the famous Right to Dream Academy of Ghana before being signed by Manchester City in 2013. However, he never broke into the senior team and spent time on loan at Swedish clubs Djurgardens and Falkenberg.

After making a total of 49 appearances and scoring 8 goals, Donyoh was transferred to Danish club Nordsjealland and signed a permanent deal. He had a great first season in the Danish top flight, scoring 9 goals and providing four assists in the league to propel the team to a fifth-place finish.

A fast, agile, technically-gifted and fleet-footed winger, Donyoh has the ability to operate on either side of the pitch and also as a centre-forward.

He has been deployed as a centre-forward this season and has excelled in his new role, scoring 7 goals. He seems to have made a habit of getting into the right place and at the right time, spearheading the team’s attack not only in the domestic league but also in the Europa League where he has scored a goal this term.

A left-footed player, the Ghanaian has the ability to operate as an inverted-winger down the right where he relies on his lightning pace and electric acceleration to take the defenders by surprise. He loves to take on defenders in one-on-one situations and his silky dribbling skills are a treat to watch.

Standing at 5ft 10 inches with a relatively lean frame for a centre-forward, Donyoh is not capable of stamping his authority inside the box with his physicality but makes up for it with his awareness and subtle movement behind the backline.

To add to that, his blistering pace is also an asset to the team during counter-attacking situations. His fine performances in the last couple of seasons have put him in contention for a place in the national side.

To put things into perspective, Everton need a versatile attacker who can operate as a winger and also as a centre-forward. It hasn’t been the ideal start that would satisfy the fans but the Merseysiders have shown a lot of promise, particularly in the final third.

However, Cenk Tosun has struggled for goals this term which has forced Marco Silva to use Richarlison as the spearhead of the attack. Theo Walcott has blown hot and cold while Bernard is yet to live up to the expectations.

Much of the attacking workload has been shouldered by Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison, both of whom have contributed with five goals each. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has produced a couple of impressive performances but Ademola Lookman hasn’t had much playtime to make a significant impact.

That said, Godsway Donyoh will definitely be a welcome addition to Everton’s squad. They need more versatility in their attacking options to avoid a potential burn-out due to injuries and signing this talented Ghanaian would certainly be a good move.
