Man United Opinion:Red Devils shouls sign Declan rice in the summer

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are keen on bringing English trio of Declan Rice, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly interested in overhauling the core of his squad.

The move, if it comes off, could cost United around £170 million in the summer transfer window.

Declan Rice has been a key figure in central midfield this season for Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham and recently switched allegiance from Ireland to England before making his senior international bow for the Three Lions during the latest international break.

Jadon Sancho has been a revelation since his switch from Man City to Borussia Dortmund, carving out a name for himself in the Bundesliga and earning his senior international debut, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka has starred at right-back in a mediocre season for Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace.

Rice, in particular, has been very impressive in the Premier League this season. Deployed by Pellegrini in a central defensive midfield role, the 20-year-old has done a brilliant job in shielding the club’s porous rearguard.

He has looked very calm and composed on the ball and has shown a level of maturity that defies his tender years. Excellent in the air and quick across the ground, Rice has caught the eye with his astute positioning and tactical responsibility in the middle of the park.

Blessed with a wonderful range of passing, Rice is a tough-tackling combative ace who not only controls the tempo of the game and keeps the ball moving but he contributes a lot with his work rate as well.

A powerful presence in the middle, the youngster likes to drive forward with intent and acts as a vital link between the midfielders and the attackers.

Known as a good tackler, he often gets into the right position to cut out the attacks and break up the play with tackles and interceptions. Furthermore, the youngster has earned a reputation of being a potent threat from indirect set-pieces, owing to his aerial ability.

Rice has averaged 46 passes per game with an accuracy percentage of 85.6, including 3 successful long balls per game, figures which show that he loves to pass the ball around and retain possession.

Rice’s average of 3 tackles and 1.4 interceptions in the Premier League shows what a promising young central midfielder he is.

To put things into perspective, the acquisition of Declan Rice in the summer would be a massive coup for the Red Devils. The youngster has already shown strong signs of excellence in his first full season at the highest level and one would expect him to develop into a stalwart in the coming years, having been tipped for great things so early in his career.

While a top-quality winger and a right-back remain high on Solskjaer’s wishlist for the summer, central midfield is another area which is in need of some investment.

Ander Herrera’s contract talks at Old Trafford have stalled and United are faced with the risk of losing him for nothing at the end of the season. Fred, on the other hand, has clearly failed to live up to the expectations in the Premier League following his big-money move from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer.

Nemanja Matic continues to be a mainstay in United’s central midfield but the Serbian has looked a bit sluggish and off the pace at times. He is still good enough, though, to play in the first-team but United need to look for reinforcements in the summer to increase competition for places.

Declan Rice certainly fits the bill and Man United would have a real gem in his hands if they actually manage to strike a deal for the recently-capped English international.

The youngster, with his sharpness, agility, strength and disciplined approach, can be an ideal partner for the ageing Matic in the midfield. That said, United should look to go all out in their pursuit of the West Ham ace.
