Three Premier League clubs who could benefit from signing Joe Hart on a free transfer
Burnley have confirmed that Joe Hart will be allowed to leave on June 30th after the club decided not to extend the player’s contract for the remainder of the prolonged season.
Hart signed for Burnley back in the summer of 2018. But, the former England No.1 hasn’t been a regular in the Clarets’ side after last featuring for the in a Premier League game during a 5-1 loss to Everton back in December 2018.
The veteran Englishman is behind Nick Pope in the pecking order at the Turf Moor. This season the goalkeeper has made only three appearances, all of which have come in cup competitions.
Hart may have struggled to establish himself at Burnley. But he has vast experience having played close to 350 games for Manchester City. In the Premier League, the 33-year-old has also played for West Ham and Burnley.
With the veteran goalkeeper now set to become a free agent, we list out three clubs that would benefit from his signing this summer.
Which clubs should move and secure the signing of Joe Hart?
AFC Bournemouth
Bournemouth are struggling this season and find themselves mired in the relegation battle. With Artur Boruc being 40 years old, the Cherries have heavily relied on youngster Aaron Ramsdale this term. While the 22-year-old has impressed, he lacks the requisite experience at this level.
Apart from Ramsdale and Boruc, who is out of contract next month, the club have Mark Travers, who at 21, is very much inexperienced at this level
Hence, a transfer for the 33-year-old Hart would be a good move for the club. He would add greater depth to the Bournemouth goalkeeping department, while bringing his spades of experience to the table. It will be a good boost for the club in their aim for revival.
Watford
Watford are currently 16th in the Premier League table, just 1 point away from the relegation spot. Much like Bournemouth, they too need goalkeeping reinforcements as Heurelho Gomes is already 39 years old and first-choice stopper Ben Foster 37. Moreover, the former’s contract expires next month, while third-choice Daniel Bachmann is also out of contract.
Hence, looking at Hart would be a viable solution for the Hornets. The 33-year-old is going to cost nothing in transfer fees and is a proven goalkeeper, having won two Premier League titles during his time with Manchester City.
Everton
Everton, too, must need to add another experienced backup to their goalkeeping ranks. Second-choice stopper Maarten Stekelenburg has agreed to a transfer to Ajax at the end of the season. João Virgínia is just 20 and his contract expires next year. This leaves Everton with just Jordan Pickford as a proven option in the goalkeeping department.
Everton also have a very poor defensive record this season. Only 5 teams have conceded more goals than them this season. Jonas Lossl will return from his loan spell at Huddersfield Town at the end of the term. However, the player has never played for Everton and was unused for the first half of the season before being loaned out.
Hence, signing Hart would be an option worth looking at for the Toffees. A fantastic goalkeeper, the 33-year-old is a great organizer and his quality and experience would make him a great addition to Everton.
