Eamonn Brophy would be the perfect January business for Leeds United

According to the Scottish Sun, Leeds United are keeping tabs on Kilmarnock’s Scotland U21 forward Eamonn Brophy.

Marcelo Bielsa is keen to add at least another striker to his squad in January to boost his team’s chances of securing automatic promotion to the Premier League, claims the Scottish Sun.

Eamonn Brophy has been in blistering form this season, scoring 9 goals for Kilmarnock across all competitions. The 22-year-old has been one panther key driving forces behind his club’s surge to third in the Scottish Premiership standings, only a point behind Celtic and Rangers at the top of the table.

A product of Celtic and Hibernian’s youth systems, Brophy turned professional with Hamilton Academical in 2013 and spent time on loan at League Two side Queen’s Park and Championship side Dumbarton before joining Kilmarnock in 2017.

He hasn’t looked back since then and his rapid rise in the Scottish Premiership has caught the eye of EFL Championship leaders Leeds United. Brophy has amassed 17 goals and 5 assists from 51 appearances across all competitions.

Standing at 5ft. 9 inches, Brophy is a sharp, agile and versatile attacker who can play as a centre-forward and also as a wide-forward down the flanks. Blessed with a good technique, Brophy is known for his clinical finishing and has a good eye for goal.

Meanwhile, Leeds have had a very good season in the Championship so far and the Peacocks currently sit atop the table, just a couple of points clear of Norwich City. Marcelo Bielsa’s side has a good goal scoring record this season but only Kemar Roofe has hit the double-digit mark.

Patrick Bamford, who was signed in the summer to lead the attack, has played only 6 times this season due to recurrent injuries. Jack Clarke and Tyler Roberts have contributed with a total of five goals while young Ryan Edmondson is yet to open his account.

As things stand, Leeds have only one viable option in Kemar Roofe up front and an injury to their talisman would deal a massive blow to their hopes of securing automatic promotion.

With three weeks to go in the January transfer window, the Peacocks need an in-form striker to provide cover for Roofe and Kilmarnock’s Eamonn Brophy is certainly a good option. That said, Bielsa should go all out to sign him.
