Why Manchester United would benefit from appointing Zinedine Zidane

According to a report by Daily Mail, Zinedine Zidane could replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United this summer. The news does sound a tad bizarre, given the timing of it.

After all, we are hardly two weeks away from the commencement of the new season and this is certainly not the ideal time to switch managers. However, considering the situation at Old Trafford, it goes without saying that a move for Zidane could truly benefit the club.

To be fair, however, it must be noted that Mourinho is not the problem at United right now. The Portuguese is a highly respected and successful manager, having won several trophies with Real Madrid and Chelsea in the past.

But United currently seem to be plagued with a lack of ambition from the owners’ side. Considering the level of cut-throat competition in the transfer window and the Premier League in general, suffice to say that United have been left far behind.

In fact, they are heading towards a stagnated state of affairs similar to what Arsenal went through towards the end of Arsene Wenger’s tenure. Luckily for the Gunners, their problem was with the manager but for United, it is a different story altogether.

While Zidane would be a great option to lead United to glory and restore their prominence across Europe, the Red Devils must first focus on solving their internal problems.

Nevertheless, the Frenchman worked wonders with Real Madrid and lifted numerous trophies with them. To win the La Liga title and Champions League trophy in one’s debut season is no joke, which further illustrates Zidane’s managerial excellence.

He is known to play an intensive brand of football that relies heavily on counter-attacks developed in the midfield area. With midfielders like Fred and Paul Pogba at hand, Zidane can truly work wonders.

Appointing him would certainly uplift the morale among the United squad and possibly even propel them towards winning a title next season. However, to regain their lost glory, United must get themselves out of this rut.
