Liverpool vs Barcelona Predictions: Liverpool Match report

Liverpool have reached the Champions League final for a second successive year after completing an incredible comeback against Barcelona at Anfield.

The Reds had an uphill task after suffering a 3-0 defeat in the first leg of their semi-final tie at Camp Nou last week. But Divock Origi gave Liverpool the perfect start to build momentum at Anfield by opening the scoring after just seven minutes, as he pounced on Jordan Henderson’s rebounded shot from close range.

Sadio Mane’s claims for a penalty, having tumbled under pressure from Sergi Roberto in from the left, were dismissed and at the other end, Alisson tipped over a Lionel Messi curler.

Alisson made an even better stop soon after, as a Barcelona breakaway saw three of their players against two Liverpool players. Coutinho ultimately swept Messi’s pass towards goal from the left side and Alisson kept it out with firm hands.

Marc Andre Ter Stegen was called into action at the other end to block an Andy Robertson effort from the left, as Liverpool continued to press for a second goal.

Klopp’s side made a bright start to the second half and were rewarded in the 54th minute, as Georginio Wijnaldum, who replaced Andy Robertson at half-time after his clash with Suarez, fired home Trent Alexander-Arnold’s deflected cross.

Barcelona didn’t even had a chance to regroup before Wijnaldum added another, heading in a Xherdan Shaqiri cross, sending Anfield into ruptures.

With just over ten minutes to go, the Reds earned themselves a corner. A moment of sharp thinking from Trent Alexander-Arnold saw the young right-back put a low cross in before Barcelona had even had the chance to organise their defence, giving Origi the easiest chance he ever had to secure Liverpool’s place in a second consecutive Champions League final.

Klopp’s Reds, who were beaten by Real Madrid in last year’s final, will now face either Tottenham or Ajax in this year’s final in Madrid on June 1.
