WWE SmackDown results, winners, grades and reaction: WrestleMania bout set for Goldberg

WWE SmackDown results, winners, grades and reaction: Bill Goldberg shocked the WWE world, maybe, as he defeated The Fiend in Super Showdown 2020.

The new champion speared The Fiend several times and hit the Jackhammer to pick up the title.

Roman Reigns faces off against Bill Goldberg (WWE)

That was the starting point for this week’s SmackDown as they decided on who challenges Goldberg for the title.

The Big Dog is back

Goldberg came out to celebrate his title win and asked “Who’s next?”. Out came Roman Reigns and the pair suggested that a WrestleMania bout is on the way.

Grade C

Goldberg winning the title in Saudi Arabia was bad enough as their wasted the Fiend character, but how come he doesn’t get a rematch.

This segment was alright since it wasn’t long but how can Reigns just become the challenger after spending almost half the year fighting Baron Corbin.

Ladies brawl

Bayley and Naomi fought at Super Showdown as the SmackDown Women’s title was defended.

Bayley came out on top in this match but was up against Naomi again.

Sasha Banks was in Bayley’s corner but attacked the challenger later on leading to a DQ.

However, that wasn’t the end of it all. Lacey Evans came out in the brawl and this became a tag match.

Banks and Bayley dominated the second clash but it was Evans and Naomi who picked up the win.

Grade C

This match could have been a lot better and bringing Banks in such a way didn’t make a lot of sense.

However, we seem to now have another rivalry with Naomi and Bayley, and it will be interesting to see how things develop between them.

A Roode awakening

Robert Roode took on Kofi Kingston of the New Day. The heel worked well to trick the referee into sending Big E away and then got Dolph Ziggler to cause a distraction and pick up the win.

Roode beats Kingston

Grade B

The match pretty good and Roode was in top form with his non-wrestling work. It is to be seen if this win pushes Ziggler and Roode into challenging the new tag champs, The Miz and John Morrison.

Contract snag

Braun Strowman and Shinsuke Nakamura were in the ring for the contract signing regarding the Intercontinental title at Elimination Chamber.

Nakamura was accompanied by Sami Zayn and Cesaro. Strowman claimed he could take all three on and Zayn changed the contract to a handicap match.

However, the quartet started to fight with Strowman getting beat up by the trio.

Grade B

Strowman would have squashed Nakamura in normal circumstances but making it a handicap match will make things interesting at Elimination Chamber.

Bryan gets a go

WWE keeps on teasing a Drew Gulak vs Daniel Bryan clash, which would be an incredible highlight.

However, we got Bryan vs Curtis Axel with Gulak doing his best on the commentary.

It was Bryan who got an easy win with the LeBell lock.

Bryan beats Axel

Grade C

A Bryan vs Gulak clash would be filled with highlights and hopefully, WWE pushes this match soon.

Usos take out the champs

The Miz and Morrison came out to celebrate winning the tag titles, but that was cut short as they faced off the Usos.

During the match, it was also confirmed that the champs would defend their titles against five other teams in the Elimination Chamber.

It was the Usos who won the clash in a fun-filled match which was more about the Elimination Chamber coming up.

Usos beat Miz and Morrison

Grade B

A good match between four experienced stars in WWE. The Elimination Chamber clash for the tag titles should also be an incredible match at the PPV.

Cena is back

John Cena made his return to SmackDown but added that he shouldn’t be at WrestleMania as others deserve a shot.

Cena sounded like he was giving a retirement speech and the ring saying spots at the show should be earned and not given out.

However, The Fiend was standing behind him and pointed to the WrestleMania sign, something that Cena nodded to.

Grade A

A perfect way to close SmackDown. Fans haven’t seen Cena enough and loved all he brought to the ring, and a clash between The Fiend and the face Cena should have a great build-up too.
