WWE NXT Results and Grades 29 April 2020: Could Keith Lee keep hold of his title?

WWE NXT Results and Grades: This week’s NXT had some important matches with many top stars performing.

While there was one title on the line, NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair was also back to prove why she was the best.

Drake Maverick, despite being released, was still fighting in the interim Cruiserweight championship while there was more from Dexter Lumis.

This was an action-packed WWE NXT and here are the results and grades.

El Hijo del Fantasma in action again

El Hijo del Fantasma got off to a winning start on NXT in the Cruiserweight championship last week. However, he was up against a tough opponent in Isaiah Scott. ‘Swerve’ came up frustrated after losing to Akira Tozawa last week, but made amends on this week’s show.

Despite Fantasma fighting back in the second half of the match, it was Scott who picked up the win with a quick pin.

Scott also said he was going to dominate NXT after the match.

Scott beats Fantasma

Grade B

NXT always has the ability to put up great matches and they did that once again. This wasn’t the best of the best but certainly, both stars put on a good show.

Scott was on a roll a few months back but that seemed to peter away in the end, and it will be interesting to see what happens next with him.

New LeRae

Candice LeRae seems to have turned to the dark side along with husband Johnny Gargano. She was in action against Kacy Catanzaro and made light work of her opponent.

Gargano accompanied his wife to the ring as LeRae defeated Catanzaro with the Wicked Stepsister. She then tormented her opponent by putting on the Gargano Lock too.

LeRae beats Catanzaro

Grade B

This was one way of reinventing the pair after Gargano’s huge brawl with Tommaso Ciampa a few weeks back.

WWE doesn’t really have too many heel husband-wife duos at the moment, and it will be interesting to see how things go for them.

New Bros attacked

Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher seem to be in sync with Thatcher helping Riddle defend the NXT Tag Titles as Pete Dunne was stuck in the UK.

However, their new ‘The Newly-Bros Show’ didn’t go as planned. Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel of Imperium came out and attacked the NXT Tag champs.

Grade B

There seem to be many tag teams interesting in fighting the Bros. The Imperium pair have been great on NXT UK and they could be a real threat to the Bros holding onto the titles.

Two champions lay down a marker

Adam Cole will finally face off against the Velveteen Dream next week and show why he is the champion.

The leader of the Undisputed Era was backstage as he promised to the dream soon.

Charlotte vs Io Shirai should be excellent

However, Charlotte was in action against Mia Yim next and the Queen put on a show. Yim managed to tag the champ a few times and Charlotte even avoided her finisher.

However, the Queen got Yim to tap out to the figure eight in the end. It wasn’t over for Charlotte as Io Shirai came out next and challenge the champ to a match next week.

Charlotte beats Yim

Grade B

Yim winning this match would have been great for her career but she did put on a great show. However, Shirai taking on Charlotte next week should be incredible.

Lumis at it again

Lumis was back in action against Shane Torn. No one knows a lot about Lumis and it seemed he could take a lot of punishment from Torn.

However, it was Lumis who came out on top with a Uranage and finishing his opponent off with the Anaconda Vice.

Lumis beats Torn

Grade B

There is something weird about Lumis and the NXT Universe still hasn’t seen enough of him.

Hopefully, more information will be provided, maybe not from Lumis himself, as this character develops on NXT.

Drake Maverick’s redemption

Maverick was one of the stars released by WWE in recent weeks, but got another shot at glory in the Cruiserweight championship.

He was up against Tony Nese and almost got a win thanks to a Sliced Bread. However, Maverick did have a win to celebrate thanks to a bulldog and went 1-1.

Maverick beats Nese

Grade B

Redemption stories are always done well by WWE and it seems we are seeing one for Maverick too.

The match wasn’t all that great but Maverick’s emotions were enough to get the crowd over, even if he was on NXT for one more week.

Lee vs Priest

Lee was the one who started the brightest as he tossed his rival, Damian Priest, easily. However, Priest came fighting back and didn’t allow Lee to rest.

Priest had some advantage after attacking Lee last week, but the champ pulled through. Despite facing a tough challenge, a pair of Spirit Bombs were enough for Lee to keep his NXT North American title.

Grade B

It would have been a little weird for Lee to lose the crown he won just a few weeks back. The Limitless One seems to have a bright future ahead of him and he was excellent in this bout.

Priest too had his moments, and this rivalry can be explored in the future too. However, Lee continues being a great champion and it will be interesting to see who his next opponent is.
