Edge vs Randy Orton is one of the big matches from Backlash 2020

Former WWE Champion Randy Orton spoke about his rivalry with Edge on the latest episode of After the Bell.

Corey Graves was pleased to have the Viper on his show as the pair started off talking about Backlash. Orton faces Edge in a rematch from WrestleMania 36 but this won’t be a Last Man Standing match.

The clash at the PPV is a pure wrestling match and has been touted as the ‘Greatest Wrestling Match’ ever.

Orton highlighted how much it meant to him that Edge was keen on facing the Viper:

“Knowing that I was his top pick, to come back to the ring after almost 10 years with all the injuries he has had, including the neck surgery, that right there is probably the greatest compliment I can get in this business, in this line of work.”

Orton added that some of the young kids didn’t know how hard they threw punches, and even he had injuries in the past.

However, he still felt great that Edge wanted to face him on his return:

“Knowing Edge considered me to be the safest guy he could work with and also have a story with we that we capitalise on that really made me feel very honoured, that Edge wanted to work with me first to kind of see and feel things out after 10 years.”

Real-life friendship

While a lot has been said about their rivalry, Orton opened by speaking about the friendship between the two.

The Viper confirmed that the pair would drive up and down the country early on in their careers. They also were tag partners during Edge’s final days in WWE and was looking forward to the clash at Backlash.

Edge’s return has been one of the biggest stories in wrestling for years. The Rated-R Superstar had to retire from the ring due to a serious neck injury. However, he made his return at the Royal Rumble in 2020.

Edge didn’t win the Rumble but started a rivalry with Orton. We saw a great match at WrestleMania and all signs suggested that another fantastic clash will take place at Backlash too.
