Peyton Royce posts emotional message after shock WWE release

Peyton Royce has taken to social media to post an emotional image after she was shockingly released by WWE on Thursday.

Exactly one year after the ‘Black Wednesday’ of 15 April 2020, when WWE released a host of performers due to Covid budget cuts, the pro-wrestling giants went on to do the same again this year.

As of writing, as many as ten wrestlers have been let go of that includes Peyton Royce, her former IIconics partner Billie Kay, Samoa Joe among others.

It comes as a major shock given that WWE posted record profits for the financial year. But the company cited ‘budget cuts’ as the reason again to wield the axe.

The release of Royce, who has been with WWE since 2015 and is a former Women’s Tag Team Champion comes as quite a shock given the promise that she had shown.

Royce not dismayed by WWE release

Following the announcement of her release from WWE, Royce posted an emotional message on Twitter. While she admitted that she was finding it hard to digest, the ex-IIconics member started off by thanking Vince McMahon and Triple H for the opportunity they’d given her.

Royce also went on to thank each and every person she came across in the locker room, as well as her fans, who ‘fuel her passion & soul’. Royce added that she hoped that she had made her country, her parents, husband, friends and family proud.

Royce signed off with a message of hope, insisting that this was a start of a new chapter for her.

“This chapter of my life has finished but I know in my heart I’m not done just yet. This really is just the beginning & I’m excited to get to work on the future.”

Splitting up The IIconics the undoing

The IIconics (Peyton Royce and Billie Kay) were part of the 2021 WWE releases

Royce and Kay may not have been to everyone’s taste but as The IIconics the pair had accomplished great things. So, the creative’s decision to split them up only to pair them with other random partners was a poor call by WWE.

And because of that, neither had been featured in anything major for some time now. While Kay did get a WrestleMania appearance, Royce had been hardly used since her new tag team partner, Lacey Evans, was written off screen.

Nevertheless, Royce is a talented worker and should find a new home soon enough. We wish her all the best for what lies ahead!
