Pete Dunne is now on Smackdown but he is here with a new name and look.
Pete Dunne was one of the most impressive wrestlers on the NXT brand. He recently faced NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes for the title but lost after interference by Trick Williams.
Pete Dunne was introduced in a backstage segment on SmackDown this week by Sheamus. Sheamus said that he and Ridge Holland have been friends with Dunne for a long time. He also claimed that while others may know their friend by a different name, they call him Butch.
Thus, Pete Dunne’s new name became Butch from hereon. Butch would accompany Sheamus and Holland for their match against The New Day.
The match was physical as always between these two tag teams. Towards the closing stages, Butch climbed on the apron and distracted Kofi Kingston. This would help Sheamus take advantage as he threw Kofi off the top rope and delivered a Brogue Kick to score the pin.
After the match, Butch would unleash his lethal side on Kingston. An intense Butch hit a flurry of hard punches to Kofi as Sheamus and Holland stood there laughing. After some time, they tried to stop Butch from delivering the onslaught but he wouldn’t relent.
It was an impactful debut for Pete Dunne on SmackDown under a new name. This newly formed faction of Butch, Sheamus, and Holland can run riot on the blue brand in the coming months.
Pete Dunne’s achievements on NXT
Butch as he is now called had an impressive career on WWE’s developmental brand.
He is a former one-time NXT Tag Team Champion with Matt Riddle. He also won the WWE United Kingdom Championship on one occasion when he defeated Tyler Bate at NXT TakeOver: Chicago in 2017. It was a highly acclaimed match that was also declared as the Match of the year at the NXT Year-End Awards.
Butch made his RAW debut in the same year in a match against then WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore. The NXT UK Champion won the match in less than three minutes. He has had several other great matches before debuting on the main roster. It is now to be seen where he goes from here.
