WWE star Mercedes Martinez confirms concussion on final NXT match

WWE Veteran wrestler Mercedes Martinez was released from NXT last month, but her last match turned out to be too costly for her as she suffered a concussion after being hit by a roundhouse kick from Li in a tag-team match. She suffered a concussion on the spot.

According to DNC Digital (h/t Wrestling Inc.), Martinez recently spoke about the incident. She mentioned that the match was going fine and it was going towards the end. She said they practiced it many times (roundhouse kick), but she didn’t realize what went wrong. It was like living daylight for her, and she was completely knocked out.

“So the match was… Everyone saw the match, the match was fine, everything was going fine,” Martinez recalled. “We were going to the end of the match to be honest. Xia had to give me a roundhouse kick. Mind you, I’d taken it so many times. I don’t know if it was timing, I don’t know if our spacing was wrong, but she basically kicked the living daylights out of me. Like, knocked me out on impact.”

Concussion protocol stopped Mercedes Martinez from continuing rivalry

During the interview, Mercedes mentioned that the storyline was supposed to continue, but she couldn’t get cleared for in-ring action for three straight weeks.

When she actually got cleared after being released by WWE, and at the same time even Li was injured as well, Li has now been working for the Raw and SmackDown dark matches since then.

“It took three weeks to officially get cleared,” she said. “Once I got cleared, and they continued the program. They were going to continue the program with me, Jake [Atlas], and Xia. They were going to continue the storyline, but they put it off I think because Xia got hurt, and I got released maybe a week after I got cleared.”

Martinez now appears for Impact Wrestling and will be performing on the Knockouts Knockdown special on October 9.
