Jimmy Smith is a well known figure in the MMA industry

WWE has roped in Jimmy Smith as their new play-by-play announcer. The former MMA analyst was a part of Bellator’s primary broadcasting team for 7 long years, from 2010-2017.

Smith, a former MMA fighter himself, then joined the UFC in 2018, before parting ways with the promotion in just a year. He then started working with Invicta FC.

The news was first reported by Wrestling Observer, later confirmed by WWE officials. He will be joining Corey Graves and Byron Saxton. It comes in the wake of, the WWE firing Adnan Virk, who hardly even lasted two months with the promotion.

An elated and surprised Smith announced on Twitter that he would be debuting on Monday in the Red-Brand of the WWE. He asked the fans to tune in and judge his work.

Smith’s Tweet read:

“”Hey guys, well it’s been a busy day. Apparently @WWE liked my work so far. I know I’m stepping into a new world (I WAS a Mr. Perfect and Bruiser Brody fanatic however) but know I’ll do everything I can to honor the athletes and fans. Watch Monday and judge my work for yourself.”

Jimmy Smith promises to stay in touch with MMA

Smith is not someone who would forget his roots. He has a show on Sirius XM radio, and has promised that he will be continuing his show, despite his big move to the WWE.

Smith assured his fans:

“Oh, and since so many people are asking: I WILL be continuing my show for @MMAonSiriusXM!! @KMurphy25 and @MRussoKOB literally begged me to stay.”

Besides this, Smith also has his own YouTube channel, where he posts videos and analyses about fights. He has been quite inactive on YouTube of late, due to a busy schedule probably.

Smith will be looking forward to carving a name for himself in the Wrestling industry as well. Hope he has a good start!
