‘End of an Era’ for legendary Eric Bischoff
Eric Bischoff is one of the household names in the wrestling business. The former head of WCW holds the undisputed feat of outranking WWE for 83 consecutive weeks.
After almost being in the business for 30 years, Bischoff recently revealed that he isn’t willing to join any promotion.
Speaking on the Angle Podcast, Bischoff discusses his decision to move on,
“It’s hard to describe,” admitted Bischoff. “I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately. It’s just interesting because I think for the last 6 months or year of my life, maybe a little longer. I’ve finally gone, ‘You know what? That’s in my rearview mirror.’ And I’m going to be really honest with you here, I’ve never had this conversation on a podcast with anybody. Even though I’ve been out of the business as a full-time person, when was the last time I was full time maybe 6 or 7 years ago in 2014.
“I dabbled a little bit. I do a little thing here and a little thing there, still very interested in the business. [I’ve been] doing my podcast, which kind of keeps me connected to the industry. For the last year, if somebody called me today and said, ‘Here’s this huge check, I want you to come in and do this.’ For the first time in 30 or however how many years, I wouldn’t do it. Because it’s that time, to mentally and emotionally walk away from it,” he added.
Eric Bischoff discusses WWE’s decision of Superstar releases
Eric Bischoff also discussed the release of six WWE Superstars from the roster. He feels that the decision taken by WWE officials was a correct one, keeping in mind the talent in WWE. The ex-Raw General Manager says with 300 wrestlers employed, the decision to cut down is taken after deliberate thought.
WWE has managed to do well during the COVID-19 times, despite facing budget cuts. Bischoff believes that better matches are in store and that WWE is on a different planet compared to AEW right now. He has also been the Executive Director on SmackDown in 2019, but he was given the boot in 4 months.
WWE is set to welcome back crowds from July 2021 and is optimistic that they will be back to their best once the dust settles.
