Edge saw incredible eight-match streak end after loss at WrestleMania 37

WWE Superstar Edge saw an incredible eight-match winning streak come to an end at WrestleMania 37 after he was beaten by Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Edge, having made his in-ring return last year, has been on a roll. The Rated-R Superstar was involved in a heated blood feud with Randy Orton before another injury sidelined him for the second half of 2020.

But Edge came back again this year to go on and win the WWE Royal Rumble to earn an opportunity for the Universal Championship. The Ultimate Opportunist had been on song throughout the buildup to the match – which became a triple-threat bout as Daniel Bryan also got involved.

And on Sunday, the trio delivered a brilliant main event that saw Edge come ever so close to winning the title. But Reigns prevailed after an assist from his ‘Right Hand Man’ Jey Uso.

Heading into the match, as confirmed by WWE Stats & Info on Twitter, Edge had won eight title matches in a row, dating back to his World Heavyweight Title run in 2010-11 just before his retirement.

Having announced his retirement while he was still a champion, he was never defeated by another wrestler to lose a title. But, on Sunday, that incredible run of eight successive wins in Championship matches was brought to a brutal halt.

In what was a fantastic match between him, Bryan and Reigns, Edge looked set for a win after hitting Bryan with a con-chair-to before he was attacked by Uso.

Capitalising on the chance, Reigns speared the Rated-R Superstar before hitting him with a con-chair-to and pinning both him and Bryan to retain the title.

Edge could get a second bite at the apple next month though, with WWE confirming the next PPV event as WrestleMania Backlash.
