WWE could be planning huge Edge match at Summerslam

The Rated-R Superstar Edge is set to return for a big match with Seth Rollins at SummerSlam

Former WWE Champion Edge is returning at SummerSlam in August to face Seth Rollins for the first-time ever in their WWE careers, as per reports.

Edge is missing from WWE since his loss at WrestleMania 37 against Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan. Seth Rollins, meanwhile, is currently feuding with Cesaro on SmackDown.

According to a source from WrestleVotes: (h/t Ringside News)

“Along w/ Roman Reigns vs John Cena for SummerSlam, WWE is planning on stacking the SmackDown side with another major matchup. Source says idea as of now is for a Seth Rollins vs Edge first time ever match.”

Edge is expecting a return on the July 16th episode on WWE Friday Night SmackDown. The WWE is planning to make him a babyface upon his return. Fans have been calling for this dream match to happen ever since their run-in in 2014.

Edge has committed to is five matches in a year, as per his contract. He will make 25 appearances per year. Having won the Royal Rumble 2021, Edge is now hoping to return for the third PPV of the year against the former SHIELD member – Seth Rollins.

The history between Edge and Seth Rollins

Edge and Rollins’ rivalry dates back to the time when Rollins was a part of The Authority, Edge announced his retirement in 2011 and came to WWE Raw to host the Cutting Edge Peep Show.

He says he wants to face Edge. He feels there's unfinished business from this year's Royal Rumble and from when he 'threatened' him on RAW. He feels there's a good story to be told there.

Team Cena won the Survivor series match against Rollins’ Team Authority and had to concede power. Rollins’ attempt at reinstating The Authority included an attack on Edge himself. Cena was then forced to agree as Rollins and Big Show threatened to break Edge’s neck.

With a rivalry which has never resulted into a match, the battle between Edge and Rollins could be one for the ages. Rollins has proven himself to be one of the best ever in the wrestling business and facing Edge could be a mirror image of the past.
