The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 and has been in the news since then. Fans will him on whenever he appears in WWE and many are backing him to be the one to topple the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Rhodes left WWE in May 2016 after disappointment at how he was being booked. The 36-year-old had pitched several ideas for himself but WWE’s creative team ignored them. He moved on to the independent circuit and wrestled in promotions like Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro-Wrestling before co-finding and joining All Elite Wrestling happened.

Cody was among the Executive Vice Presidents of the company. He also wrestled frequently. During his time in Tony Khan’s promotion, he became a 3-time AEW TNT Champion and won the AEW TNT Championship Tournament in 2020.

The former Legacy member had some great feuds in AEW and some brutal matches. Rhodes’ last match in AEW was on January 26, 2022, when he lost to Sammy Guevara. Rhodes left AEW with his wife Brandi Rhodes after failing to get on the same page with the promotion regarding a new contract.

On March 18, 2022, it was reported by multiple sources that Rhodes had signed a contract with WWE. He made his debut on Night 1 of WrestleMania 38 and it has been smooth sailing ever since.

Cody Rhodes has been involved in a feud with Seth Rollins since returning to the Stamford-based company. The two accomplished wrestlers will face each other for the third time at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.

Rhodes explained on Twitter, his reason behind leaving AEW and joining WWE. The former Intercontinental Champion described his decision as a personal one.

The “big one” seems to be the world championship in WWE. Rhodes’ Hall of Famer father Dusty Rhodes and brother Goldust have not been able to win a world championship in Vince McMahon’s company. Rhodes would certainly want to win the world championship in the near future.
