Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes made his return at WrestleMania 38

Cody Rhodes is a former AEW Executive Vice President. He left the company a couple of months back and made his return to WWE after six long years. Cody made his long anticipated return against Seth Rollins at the grandest stage of all.

On Night 1 of WrestleMania 38, Cody returned with his AEW theme. The live audience present at the stadium went crazy as Cody slowly emerged from the gorilla position. Cody’s return marked the first of its kind. He is the first wrestler to come back from AEW to WWE.

The American Nightmare came back to face Seth “Freakin” Rollins. Once his ‘Kingdom’ theme song hit, the crowd went crazy. There was a huge pop amongst the audience present there. Cody slowly emerged through and went to the ring to face, The kingslayer. After a tough fight and a possible match of the year contender, Rhodes emerged victorious.

The Achievements of Cody Rhodes

Cody comes from a wrestling family. He is the son of the late, great “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes (Virgil Runnels) and the younger half-brother of Dustin Rhodes (Dustin Runnels), better known as Goldust. Cody Rhodes debuted for then-WWE developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) in 2006, when he was just 20. He made his television debut in 2007. He left the company in 2016 but had multiple championship reigns. Rhodes became a two-time Intercontinental Champion, a three-time WWE Tag Team Champion and a three-time World Tag Team Champion.

After leaving WWE, Cody wrestled for various indie promotions. He performed for bigger-name promotions like New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), Ring of Honor (ROH) and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA)/Impact Wrestling. It was around this time that Rhodes became a member of the Bullet Club. In 2019, Tony Khan along with Cody Rhodes as the executive vice president, founded AEW (All Elite Wrestling). Rhodes went on to become AEW’s inaugural TNT Champion. He held the title a record three times.

In February 2022, Cody and his wife Brandi parted ways with AEW with rumors speculating that the couple might be headed towards WWE again. On March 18th, it was reported that Cody had signed a deal with WWE. And with time, the former Tag team champion made his WWE return on night 1 of WrestleMania 36.
