Lita almost quit due to Edge-Matt Hardy love triangle

The Lita-Edge storyline was one of the wildest storylines during the Ruthless Aggression era in the WWE

Lita, Edge and Matt Hardy were involved in one of the sleaziest scripts one could ever imagine.

During the mid-2000s, Lita was romantically involved with wrestler Matt Hardy, but also began an affair with the Edge.

This led to friction between the three, resulting in a tumultuous love triangle. The WWE decided to cash in. They brought the trio’s troubles on to their storyline.

That was when Hardy revealed the same on his blog, which led to the promotion firing him. Following his firing, Lita, who was a fan favourite back then, was jeered and booed by the fans.

The chants, “You screwed Matt!” and “We want Matt!” became a regular part of Lita’s entrance, which still haunt her.

In a recent appearance on Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions podcast, Lita claimed that she is still scarred by ‘that’ storyline.

She went on to state that, she receives comments about her then-relationship on social media, on a regular basis.

Lita was quoted as saying:

“It’s still talked about. My relationships are commented on a regular basis, on my Instagram still or social media. Meanwhile, all of the men involved, you know, anything not controversial like with [CM] Punk or Edge or Matt, I guarantee they don’t get asked about it. I know they don’t get asked about it because they’re dudes, and, you know, it’s that double standard thing. I think at this point that’s the problem; what I hold onto, feeling the double standard.” [via Wrestling INC]

Lita reveals how bad her mental health was affected; discusses quitting WWE

Things might have looked easier on the eye, from a viewer’s standpoint. But Lita’s story give a whole another dimension to her WWE heydays.

Lita explained how difficult it was to wake up every morning with a bitter taste. Her mental health had gone for a seismic toss back then.

This is what Lita had to say:

“But I’ll tell you it was not easy. I mean, for sure, I almost quit a month [into] the whole love triangle. At that point, not only was it so hard, it was also out of shame. Like, I wasn’t proud of how I conducted myself. Yes, if I had to do it all over again, I absolutely would have handled myself differently. But I didn’t. So, I was like, make the bed, and you lie in it. And at that point, I was just like, I deserve all of these terrible things that everybody is saying to me. I deserve not wanting to wake up every morning. It was also difficult, as time passed, to let myself off the hook. The only way you can move forward with your life is, sure, you learn from your mistakes and keep going, but you have to forgive yourself.” [via Wrestling INC]
