WWE fan attacks Seth Rollins on Monday night Raw and ends up in police custody
During this week’s Monday night Raw, a rather bizarre occurrence unfolded. After a pretty successful outing a day before at Survivor Series, Seth Rollins led team Raw to victory as the sole survivor which helped Raw to sweep SmackDown 5-2 and earn win the Survivor Series yet again.
Rollins was scheduled to take on Finn Balor. The match, however, wasn’t even started as the Messiah proceeded to attack Balor during his entrance. After beating down Balor, Rollins headed up the ramps on his way to the backstage. Little did he knew, his night was not that simple. A fan jumped the barricade and proceeded to attack the former WWE champion.
The fan tackled Rollins to the ground and the WWE staff and referees were quick to separate the WWE superstar before either of the two parties sustained any damage. WWE was quick to release a statement following the attack where the promotion said:
“WWE takes the safety of its performers very seriously. The individual who attacked Seth Rollins has been turned over to the NYPD and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
As revealed by the WWE, the fan was turned over to the New York Police Department. Although it is not the first time that a superstar was confronted by a fan, sights like these are really disheartening. WWE stars are already risking their lives while performing and attacks like these can inflict more damage upon the wrestler.
What happened to the fan who attacked Seth Rollins?
As revealed earlier, the fan was handed over to the New York Police Department. Further details have emerged regarding the arrest of the fan who attacked Rollins. As reported by ESPN, the person who attacked the WWE superstar was identified as Elisah Spencer, 24. Reports reveal that Spencer will be charged with attempted assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs (disrupting a live sporting event.)
Seth Rollins was also offered medical attention following the attack. However, as per the police, the WWE superstar refused to get medical attention. As Spencer attacked Rollins, the cameras initially broadcasted the occurrence but it became apparent that it was not a part of the script and the cameras were cut.
On the other hand, the WWE commentators did not mention the attack at all, instead, they continued with their scripts as the altercation happened. Further reports regarding the attacker’s charges and hearings are yet to be revealed by the New York Police Department.
Although the situation has now been handled, it will certainly leave a bitter taste in the mouth of the WWE performers who risk their lives day in and day out. Rollins would look forward to throwing this incident in the past and moving on from this attack.
