Wolves should buy Bruma in January to replace Adama Traore

According to an earlier report from Birmingham Mail, Wolverhampton Wanderers were interested in signing Portuguese attacker Bruma from his former club Galatasaray. However, a move to the Premier League failed to materialise and the talented youngster continued to flourish in the Turkish top flight.

A product of Sporting Lisbon’s youth system, Bruma played for the reserve team of his boyhood club in the second division before making his Premier Liga debut in the 2012-13 season. However, he joined Turkish giants Galatasaray in 2014 after a long-standing contract dispute.

His first season in Turkey was marred by injuries but he proved his worth in his second season, scoring 11 goals and providing 6 assists. Following a successful spell in Turkey, Bruma moved on to Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in the summer of 2017 and has been an indispensable component of their attack since then.

Bruma, who has 7 caps for Portugal at the senior level, is a fast, agile and powerful attacker who is also capable of playing as a winge down either flank and also as a supporting striker through the centre.

Known for his ability to torment defences with his powerful runs and silky dribbling skills, Bruma is not particularly a physically-imposing attacker but he has substantial upper body strength and good balance to drive his way past the opposition. However, it is his pace that makes him the player that he is.

However, he is not a one-dimensional player by any means. Bruma knows how to use his pace and skills to his advantage, beating the opposition with his instant acceleration and clever changes of direction. An extremely agile and fleet-footed attacker, the Portuguese international can change direction in the blink of an eye to leave the defenders for dead.

The 24-year-old is also a fluent passer of the ball and combines his raw pace and skills with his link-up play in the final third. He is an intelligent footballer with decent tactical awareness who can create chances for his teammates in the final third. Furthermore, he is known for his powerful efforts from range and always keeps the goalkeeper on his toes.

Bruma averaged 44.8 passes per game with an accuracy percentage of 84.1 in the 2016-17 season at Galatasaray. Furthermore, he averaged 2.5 shots, 2.1 key passes and a whopping 4.4 dribbles per game in that season, figures which speak volumes of his all-around abilities as an attacker.

To put things into perspective, Wolves can do themselves a world of good by rekindling their interest in the Portuguese powerhouse. In fact, they should try to make a move for him in January to replace the struggling Adama Traore.

It is a no-brainer that Bruma would be a huge upgrade on the summer recruit from Middlesbrough. As evident from Traore’s performances in the Premier League so far, he is not the finished product that Wolves would have expected when they splashed £18 million to secure his services.

Granted, he has the pace to burn but he will not make much of an impact in the top flight unless he adds tactical awareness and technical abilities to his repertoire. As things stand, the best thing that Wolves can do now is loan Traore out to his former club to allow him to work on his game.

Bruma can add that cutting edge to Wolves’ attack and an attacker of his calibre can definitely help Nuno Santo’s men achieve a top-ten finish, if not, a Europa League spot.
