Why Wolves should press ahead with their interest in Milot Rashica

According to a report from Sky Sports, Wolves are among four Premier League clubs vying for the signature of Werder Bremen forward Milot Rashica.

The Kosovan international started out at the academy of KF Vushtrria, but never made a first-team appearance. In 2015, the forward moved to Vitesse Arnhem, where he grew into prominence. He racked up 100 appearances for the Dutch side, scoring 15 goals and assisting 24.

In January 2018, Werder Bremen signed him up for a €7m fee. Since joining the German outfit, the 23-year-old has made 64 appearances so far, bagging 23 goals and setting up 11.

Wolves going from strength to strength

Wolves have carried on from where they left off last season. Having qualified for the Europa League, the Midlands outfit has built on that success, having progressed to the Round of 16 in Europe, while sitting 6th in the Premier League table.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have been performing well at both ends of the pitch. Solid in defence, prolific in attack, they had another impressive campaign. However, for the club to take the next step and push for a top-four finish consistently, Santo needs to add more quality and depth to his squad.

Their attacking department currently consists of Raul Jimenez, Adama Traore and Diogo Jota, along with summer signing Pedro Neto. All of them have been performed very well this season. In addition, Daniel Podence and Leonardo Campana were also added in January.

However, a number of clubs are vying for the signing of Jimenez, who is Wolves’ top scorer this season. Irrespective of whether he stays or leaves, adding another attacker to the ranks would hold Wolves in good stead ahead of the coming seasons.

To that end, Rashica would represent a viable option for the Midlands’ outfit. The Kosovo international finished the 2018/19 season with 12 goals and 6 assists in 30 matches. He has built on those performances this term, producing a tally of 10 goals and 5 assists in 24 games in all competitions.

The fact that Premier League champions-elect Liverpool are also interested in Rashica (h/t Mirror) should be an indicator of the quality that the 23-year-old possesses.

Signing him would increase healthy competition within the Wolves squad, which would lead to the betterment of all players. Furthermore, Santo will have additional options at his disposal, owing to the 23-year-old’s versatility.

Verdict

Rashica has been a consistent performer for Werder Bremen over the past couple of seasons. While Wolves have a number of attacking options at their disposal, for them to take the next step in their journey, adding further quality would be the right move.

Furthermore, there are doubts over the future of Raul Jimenez, who is being targeted by a number of clubs this summer. Hence signing the 23-year-old Rashica would be a smart move by Nuno & co.
