Wolves Opinion: Why Morgan Sanson will be a superb fit at Molineux?

According to a report from Telefoot, Wolves are interested in signing Marseille playmaker Morgan Sanson in the summer.

The Frenchman, 24, has been a key part of Marseille’s squad since he moved to the Stade Velodrome from Montpelier in January 2017. He has scored four goals and set up four more in all competitions this season, catching the attention of some clubs, including Wolves.

Morgan Sanson extended his contract at Marseille in December 2018, meaning Wolves have to splash a lot of money to bag his signature. Considering his performances at Stade Velodrome over the last 18 months, the Midlands outfit must definitely make a move for the 24-year-old midfielder.

Wolves are one of the most ambitious sides in the Premier League right now, signing high-profile players like Rui Patricio, Raul Jimenez and Joao Moutinho last summer. Nuno Espirito’s side have performed extremely well upon their return to the Premier League this season and have also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

One of their top signings has been Moutinho, who joined Wolves from AS Monaco last summer. The highly-experienced Portuguese midfielder has been brilliant in his debut season in English football, bagging a goal and seven assists thus far. Not only that, his experience and leadership skills have also been valuable for Nuno’s exciting side.

But Moutinho will turn 33 in September and even though he hasn’t shown signs of slowing down, Nuno will need to replace him, sooner rather than later. Morgan Sanson could be his ideal long-term replacement at Molineux and will give Nuno’s side some flair in the final third.

A technically-gifted and tactically versatile midfielder, Sanson is capable of dropping deep to cover the back four while sparking moves with a pin-point pass or run through the middle. He has a reputation in France as a player capable of carving open the opposition with defence-splitting passes.

A quick passer of the ball, the 24-year-old is always looking to get the ball forward and driving his team up the pitch. The Frenchman also offers goals and that coupled with his creativity, vision and work-rate has made him one of the exciting playmakers in French football.

Sanson could offer Wolves the same attributes as Moutinho with so much more. He could be the perfect complement to the Ruben Neves-Leander Dendoncker duo.

Verdict

Naturally, Sanson’s reputation is soaring—Wolves would have to move real quick if they want the Frenchman’s signature in the summer transfer window.
