Mbaye Diagne would be an ideal signing for Wolves in January

According to Birmingham Live, Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in making a move for Leeds United and Hull City target Mbaye Diagne in January.

The 27-year-old Senegalese international, who was not included in his nation’s squad that played in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, has been in red-hot form this season for Turkish Super Lig side Kasimpasa. Diagne has netted 23 goals in 30 appearances for the Turkish outfit since making a move from Chinese club Tianjin Teda last January.

The highly-rated centre-forward has scored 11 goals from 11 appearances in the league this season, registering a couple of assists in the process.

Diagne had a spell with Juventus earlier in his career but didn’t make any league appearances for the Italian giants. Instead, he had loan stints at various clubs across Europe and also tried his luck in the Chinese top division.

The Senegalese international has somewhat been a late bloomer at the age of 27 but few can back against him carrying his prolific form into the Premier League. Nuno Santo’s men were flying high after a solid solid start to their Premier League campaign but thee back-to-back defeats, followed by a recent draw against Arsenal, just seem to have taken the wind out of their sails.

Not denying the fact that Wolves have a good squad studded with lots of talented players, the Premier League new boys have been short of goals this term. They have shown plenty of character and resilience in the top flight but they need to sharpen their forward line in order to finish in the top ten.

Raul Jimenez has spearheaded the attack effectively while the likes of Helder Costa, Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho have all done well. However, they lack the presence of a prolific goalscorer who can find the net on a regular basis.

And Kasimpasa’s Mbaye Diagne would be a good bargain. Standing at 6ft 3 inches with a towering frame, Diagne is not the most nimble-footed, agile or pacy striker in Europe but he makes up for it with his aerial prowess, physicality and clinical finishing.

He is not the most technically-gifted centre-forward either but shows decent close control and has the ability to receive long passes with minimal first touch error. Apart from that, he has the ability to hold on to the ball in the final third and picks out the runs of his teammates with incisive through balls. Moreover, he tends to intimidate the defenders with his body strength.

However, his best attributes are his physicality and aerial ability. Diagne has averaged 3.9 shots and 2.5 successful aerial duels per game this season. Furthermore, he has registered 1.3 key passes per game, which shows that he is a good assist provider as well.

Hence, Diagne has all the qualities to achieve success in the Premier League and Wolves should not hesitate to table a handsome bid to land him in January. He might not be one of the best strikers around but his clinical finishing might help the club achieve a better goalscoring record.
