Wolves Opinion: Why Victor Camarasa would be a smart fit at the Molineux

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Wolves and West Ham are locked in a battle to sign Real Betis midfielder Victor Camarasa.

The Spaniard, 25, spent the last season on long at Cardiff City and impressed in the Premier League, where he was directly involved in nine goals. However, the Bluebirds were relegated from the top-flight at the end of last season and that saw Camarasa reject permanent stay in South Wales.

The report claims Real Betis are planning to loan Camarasa out again or selling this summer. West Ham are said to be interested in him but their recent acquisition of Pablo Fornals from Villarreal has seemingly put Wolves in the driver’s seat for the Betis playmaker’s signature.

Wolves enjoyed a fantastic return to the Premier League as they finished seventh in the table. Their aim now will be to break into the top six and qualify for the group stages of the Europa League next season. Premier League is a highly taxing, competitive competition where teams need to have quality as well as depth to their squad to tackle with its demands.

Add Europa League to the mix and Nuno Espirito Santo must have a bigger squad to compete on all fronts next term. Other than the defence, the Wolves boss should target strengthening his midfield options further.

In Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves, Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker and young Morgan Gibbs-White, the Wanderers have an exciting midfield unit. However, Moutinho has started ageing and at nearly 33, it would be too much to ask him to play both Premier League and Europa League games frequently.

A creative playmaker to rotate with him would be ideal, and Camarasa fits the billing perfectly at the Molineux.

Camarasa has shown last season that he can be a real handful for any defender in the opposition half as he is always willing to run and take promising positions in the final third of the pitch.

The Spaniard is highly skilled on the ball, which enables him to complete dribbles without losing possession. Furthermore, the 25-year-old is an expert set-piece taker as he often tends to hit the target, both from close range and long distance.

The Betis midfielder will significantly bolster Nuno’s attacking options at the Molineux. He will also compete with Moutinho for a regular starting berth in the Wolves first-team.

Verdict

Camarasa would be a good fit in Nuno’s style of play and joining an exciting Wolves side is a no-brainer. Thus, Wolves should go all out to sign the Spanish playmaker from Betis.
