Why Wolves should go all out for Jesus Corona this summer
According to a report from the Daily Mail, FC Porto have turned down an offer for Jesus Corona from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Portuguese outfit are waiting for clubs to meet the player’s release clause and aren’t willing to accept anything lower.
Wolves, however, would not be deterred as they continue their raid on Porto after the signings of Vitinha and Fabio Silva. Vitinha comes in on a one-year loan deal (DailyMail) and Fabio Silva has joined for a club-record fee.

Jesus Corona is a 27-year-old Mexican wide midfielder who currently plays for FC Porto in the Liga NOS. He started his youth career at Monterrey in 2008 and moved to the senior side within 3 years.
Two years later, he left for FC Twente and managed to rack up decent numbers. In 51 games, he scored 13 and assisted 5. After two seasons, he joined FC Porto and has settled in the team since then, managing 28 goals and 55 assists in 221 games.
He is a very versatile player, who can play as a right-back or left-midfielder if required. He is an experienced campaigner for the national team too, with 42 caps and 7 goals to his name.
Why must Wolves continue to pursue Jesus Corona
After the departure of Matt Doherty (source – BBC) to Spurs, Wolves are lacking an out-and-out right-midfielder or right wing-back. There is only the 17-year-old Luke Matheson who can play in the position. Asking him to step into the role right now could be a huge gamble. With Wolves’ preferred formation relying on an RM/RWB to provide width, it is imperative that they get someone to fill in that role.
Jesus Corona can be the ideal player to do that. Capable of playing as RM and a bit lower down the field if required, he has good numbers to back his capabilities too.
According to Daily Mail, Wolves are only £5million short of the release clause. While this wouldn’t have been a big deal, given the current state of the market post the coronavirus pandemic, every club is clasping onto their purse strings a bit tighter than usual.

Verdict
For the reported release clause, Wolves would be getting a very solid, versatile and experienced player. They should surely come back with an improved offer to match the release clause or something close to it.
The club have a knack for snapping up players from the Portuguese league and Jesus Corona could be the latest to join that line.
