Why Wolves signing Oscar Rodriguez would be fantastic for the future
As per Mundo Deportivo (h/t Birmingham Mail), Wolves are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Oscar Rodriguez in the summer. He is currently on a two-year loan deal with CD Leganes and the report suggests that Wolves could sign him for a cut-price fee in the summer.
Oscar, 22, flourished through the ranks of Real Madrid’s youth system and made 34 appearances for the Castilla side, scoring 6 goals and providing 5 assists. However, he has found it hard to get regular game time with the senior team and was sent on loan in the summer of 2018.
Since joining Leganes, he has established himself as a key member under Javier Aguirre and has excelled with the Spanish mid-table club. However, with the big names present in Los Blancos’ squad, getting into the first-team could get tougher. Thus, moving away from Santiago Bernabeu would be the right choice for the youngster. And Wolves should lure him to England this summer.
Oscar could be a good addition to Wolves’ creative department
At the moment, Wolves just two established midfielders in Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves, whereas, Leander Dendoncker has been mainly used in a defensive role. However, they don’t have a natural attacking midfielder in their ranks.
Former Monaco man Moutinho has been leading their midfield department, whereas Neves operates as a box-to-box midfielder. And it is clear that they lack creativity in the midfield. Thus, signing an attacking midfielder would be a wise decision by the club.
To that end, Oscar would be a viable option for the club. The Spanish U21 international has been in sensational form in the last two seasons for Leganes. After racking up 4 goals and 4 assists in 31 league games last season, he has continued with the fine form this term. He has managed to score 9 goals while providing 2 assists in 29 league games so far.
He is just 22 and could be a future star for Wolves if he develops well. The youngster has been consistent and his ability would be helpful for Nuno’s side. He would also bring in healthy competition.
