Why Wolves should not send Matija Sarkic out on loan
According to The Sun (h/t Birmingham Mail), Sunderland have been linked with a move for Wolves goalkeeper Matija Sarkic.
The 23-year-old shot-stopper just arrived at the Molineux last week following his release from Aston Villa after five years with the club. Meanwhile, the report also claims that Sunderland had been credited with an interest in Sarkic before he made the move to Wolves.
With Sarkic having joined the Premier League side on a three-year contract, Sunderland are now hopeful that they could land the keeper on a one-year loan deal ahead of next season.
The Montenegrian, meanwhile, joins the likes of Rui Patricio, John Ruddy, and Will Norris at the Molineux after spending most of his time on the sidelines at his former club Aston Villa. Despite being a regular within Villa’s under-23 side, Sarkic did not gain much game time with their senior side.
With the side already having enough depth in their goalkeeping department, Sarkic saw himself get shipped out on loan to several clubs. His senior outings mostly came on loan with sides such as Stratford Town, Havant and Waterlooville and Scottish side Livingston.
However, the young goalkeeper gave a glimpse of his talent in the first half of last season while on loan with Livingston, keeping six clean sheets from 14 league matches before he was recalled by Villa in January. Injuries to Villa goalkeepers Tom Heaton and Jed Steer saw Sarkic being brought back as a back-up but once again, he was restricted to the sidelines.
Wolves should keep faith in Sarkic and offer him chances
However, at Wolves, Sarkic need not wait longer as Patricio and Ruddy are already past 30. Patricio still remains Wolves’ first-choice man, having managed 13 clean sheets in the Premier League last season.
Ruddy, on the other hand, is 33 now and did not feature in a single league game, meaning Sarkic now has an opportunity to fight for a starting place in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. Wolves also have a third goalkeeper – Norris, in their ranks, but the 26-year-old spent last season on loan with Ipswich, indicating that he is clearly not one of Nuno’s favourites at the moment.
Wolves should refrain from any transfer involving their recent signing Sarkic. Rather they should keep faith in him and offer him more chances as he could prove to be the man to guard their posts in the coming days.

Verdict
Apart from Patricio and Ruddy, Wolves lack an established goalkeeper in their ranks and who better than young keeper Sarkic. Having spent most of his time warming the benches at Villa Park, Sarkic will be eager to prove a point and this could, in turn, benefit Nuno’s side. Moreover, he is just 23 and could prove to be an excellent future signing for the club.
