Why Serhou Guirassy would be a shrewd signing for West Ham

Back in January, Amiens striker Serhou Guirassy was heavily linked with West Ham. (h/t The Birmingham Mail) However, no deal materialised and he stayed put at the Ligue 1 club.

Serhou Guirassy, 24, initially joined Amiens on loan from FC Koln in January 2019. He impressed during his loan spell, registering three goals and an assist in 13 appearances. The Frenchman’s loan move was turned permanent by Amiens in the summer.

The 24-year-old has impressed in his first full season with Amiens, scoring 9 goals and registering an assist in 23 Ligue 1 games till date. However, the Le Foot, quoted by Sport Witness (h/t Birmingham Mail) claim that the suspension of football due to the coronavirus outbreak has had a negative effect on Amiens’ finances and they are willing to sell Guirassy for €10m this summer.

That being said, West Ham must rekindle their interest in the Amiens striker when the transfer window opens in the summer.

The Hammers have endured a torrid campaign in the Premier League and currently sit 16th in the table. They have won just once in their last five league games. Truly, the East London outfit are in real threat of getting relegated.

West Ham have struggled for goals despite signing Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer. Haller has managed just 7 goals in 27 league games, failing to live up to the high expectations of the London Stadium faithful. They also signed Albian Ajeti but the Swiss is yet to break his duck for his new club.

Jarrod Bowen was roped in from Hull City on the January transfer deadline day and he has made a positive impression at the London Stadium. But West Ham need another striker in their ranks to cover and compete with Haller next season. In that regard, Serhou Guirassy would be a smart choice.

Before joining Amiens, Guirassy netted nine times in 45 appearances for FC Koln. At Amiens this season, however, the 24-year-old has enjoyed the best scoring campaign in his career and was on course to break into double figures before Ligue 1’s suspension.

The Frenchman would not only be a quality addition to West Ham but also bring competition within David Moyes’ squad. West Ham have Haller as their primary striker but have little other option, with Ajeti failing to make an impact since his move from FC Basel.

So, signing Guirassy makes sense as he would certainly provide Moyes’ side with some much-needed extra goals – provided he is able to replicate the same form at the London Stadium.

Verdict

At the age of 24, Guirassy will soon enter the best years of his career and West Ham could enjoy his peak if they manage to sign him. The French centre-forward has all the required qualities to thrive in England and he would be a shrewd signing.
