Why West Ham should make a move for Moussa Wague

As per Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Express), West Ham are in talks with Barcelona to sign youngster Moussa Wague in the summer.

Wague, 21, moved to Belgium with KAP Eupen in 2107 after coming through the ranks at ASPIRE Academy in Qatar. He was then picked by Barcelona to play for the club’s B side in the summer of 2018 and made his senior debut against Girona in the Catalan Super Cup.

Since then, he has not featured beyond 6 times for Barcelona and just returned from a loan spell with OGC Nice in France, having made his Nice debut in a 2-1 win over Lyon last February. The youngster has struggled for game time in the last couple of seasons and thus, West Ham should take advantage of his situation and take him to London this summer.

Wague could be a good future addition for West Ham

While the Londoners brought in a few players in the last transfer window, there were no changes made to their defensive unit. But since then, they have lost Pablo Zabaleta and Jeremy Ngakia, both of whom opted to leave the club last month when their contract came to an end.

This has left the manager with only one option at right-back in Ryan Fredricks. He has featured in 26 league games so far, contributing with just 3 assists and there has been no competition for the former Tottenham man. Thus, a right-back is a must in the summer.

In that regard, signing Wague would do them a world of good. The Senegalese international has done a decent job for both Barcelona and Nice despite getting limited opportunities. And it is only a matter of time before he develops his game with regular action. He could develop himself into a future player for West Ham under the guidance of Moyes.

Having gone to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 with the Senegal national team, Wague has come a long way from playing in Qatar to being signed by the La Liga giants. Thus, the Hammers should make use of this opportunity to secure his services at the earliest.

Verdict

With Zabaleta and Ngakia leaving the club, the East Londoners are in need of right-backs. Wague is still young and could go on to represent them in the long run. Thus, they should attempt to lure the Senegalese international to London.
