Why Robin Quaison to Tottenham would bolster their attack
As per The Mirror (h/t Football.london), Tottenham have inquired about the possibility of signing Mainz star Robin Quaison ahead of the new campaign.
The report suggests that Jose Mourinho wants to add depth to his attacking ranks as the next season could be hard, with games coming thick and fast. And Quaison, who has entered the final year of his contract with the club, could be a good signing for the Lilywhites.
Profile
Born in Sweden, Quaison spent time at the academies of Jarva SK and AIK Solna before rising through the latter’s youth system. After a few years in Swedish football, the striker moved to Italy with Palermo in the summer of 2014. However, in 70 appearances for the Italian outfit, he managed to score just 8 goals.
He was then signed by Mainz in January 2017. Though he struggled in his first season with the German outfit, he managed to score 7 league goals last season and continued with the fine form this season. He scored 13 goals in the 2019/20 league campaign and has only gotten better with experience. Thus, Tottenham should manage to secure his services at the earliest.
Why Tottenham need Quaison
Harry Kane has shouldered the burden of Tottenham’s attack for several years. The Englishman has been brilliant and has established himself as one of the best strikers in Europe. He has scored more than 15 goals in each of the last six league campaigns and is one of the key players for the Lilywhites.
However, his absence during the second half of this past season was felt heavily by the team. Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min led the attack in Kane’s absence but that didn’t work well. They looked comfortable on either flank and Mourinho was left with no option through the middle. Thus, signing a striker in the summer would help the manager reduce the burden on Kane’s shoulder.
In that regard, Quaison would be a viable option for the club. The Swedish international has gone from strength to strength in the last couple of years. He has scored enough to stake his claim and has led Mainz to 13th position in the league standings.
He may not walk straight into Mourinho’s starting XI but the former Palermo man could be a useful backup for Kane. He can be used as an understudy to the English captain and the Lilywhites could make up for the void left by Fernando Llorente last summer.

Verdict
With just Kane available up front, it is clear that Tottenham are in dire need of strikers. And Quaison could be a perfect backup for the English talisman and he can provide them with some much-needed extra goals. Thus, signing the Swedish international would be a wise decision by the club.
