Why Tottenham should make a move for Loren Moron
As per Mundo Deportivo (h/t Football.london), Tottenham are interested in signing Real Betis star Loren Moron ahead of the new season.
The report claims that the 26-year-old Spaniard will be allowed to leave for less than €50m, which is his actual release clause. But the Lilywhites could face competition to secure his services as Premier League rivals Sheffield United and West Ham are also keen on the striker.
Profile
Born in Spain, Moron came through the youth ranks of UD Marbella and spent a few seasons on loan with Union Estepona and Velez before joining Betis’ B side in January 2015 on a free transfer. He impressed with the club’s youth side, scoring 30 goals in 64 games and was handed his debut in the 2017/18 campaign.
In just 15 appearances that season, he managed to score 7 goals and went on to score 8 goals in the following campaign. He has established himself as a key figure in the squad and has been in brilliant form in the last two seasons. He finished the 2019/20 campaign as the club’s top scorer with 12 goals across all competitions, with 10 of them coming in the league.
Why Tottenham need Moron
For several years, English ace Harry Kane has led Tottenham’s attack and he has been in brilliant form for the Lilywhites. He has gone on to establish himself as a key figure and also helped them to the Champions League final in 2019. He has made 287 appearances to date, scoring 188 goals for the club.
However, without a proper backup, the North Londoners failed for the majority of the last campaign when their talisman was out of action for several months. Lucas Moura and Heung Min-Son were used in the centre-forward role but they didn’t make much of an impact. And they failed to score regularly in Kane’s absence. Thus, a striker is a must in the summer.
In that regard, making a move for Moron seems sensible. The Spaniard has improved in each of the last three seasons. He has shown immense potential despite his team’s poor performance this season.
His inclusion would definitely add depth to their attacking ranks and the Betis star forward could also come in handy for the Lilywhites in the domestic cup competitions. This could help them through the long season, with games coming thick and fast.

Verdict
With limited options up front, it is clear that Tottenham are in dire need of strikers as a backup for Kane. And Moron, who has been in good nick, can provide them with some much-needed extra goals. Thus, signing him this summer would be a wise decision by the club.
