Why Tottenham need Norwich City star Max Aarons more than Arsenal

The Daily Mail has reported that arch-rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are in the race for Norwich City star Max Aarons, as they look to add to their crop of youngsters. Aarons, 19, has been a key star for Norwich City manager Daniel Farke’s side this season, playing all but five games so far in the Championship.

The only reasons Aaron missed the opening five games was because Farke persisted with David Marshall and Ivo Pinto, before eventually selecting the youngster.

The player hasn’t looked back since, with the 19-year-old Englishman playing a crucial part in the Canaries’ rise to the top of the table. Not only that, what has interested both the North London sides is the fact that Aarons has produced seven goals this season, scoring three of those himself.

This has seen the 19-year-old right-back’s value shoot into the stratosphere with the Daily Mail further reporting that the player would be sold in upwards of £20million. There was an interest of a move surrounding Max Aarons in the winter window, but Norwich somehow managed to keep hold of the teenager, but next summer could prove to be the real test.

Mauricio Pochettino and his side are expected to have the money to spend in the summer. They need the player for other reasons as well. While a young and precocious talent like Max Aarons would be more than welcomed at White Hart Lane, the fact that he is a homegrown player – adds to his value for Tottenham.

They have been facing problems due to their lack of home-grown players, which played a major part in their UEFA Champions League and Premier League squad list. But while that should be kept in mind, what Tottenham do need to focus on is a replacement or rather back-up to Kieran Trippier.

The latter has frustrated Spurs fans since his heroics in Russia for England. He has looked defensively weak more often than not this season. That’s been one of the major reasons why Tottenham have struggled at the back.

On the other hand, Aarons has been defensively sound for Norwich, which is one of the many reasons why he replaced Ivo Pinto at right-back for the Canaries. While a move will mark the end of Serge Aurier and even Kyle-Walker Peter’s career at Tottenham, it’s one that the North London side should make, ahead of their rivals Arsenal.
