Why Tottenham must allow Danny Rose to leave amidst PSG interest

According to The Sun, French giants Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Danny Rose after his loan spell with Newcastle United ends.

The report suggests that Juventus and Arsenal might snap up Lavyin Kurzawa from Paris in the summer and the club have decided to replace the Frenchman with Rose.

Rose, 29, who came through the ranks of Leeds United’s youth system, joined Tottenham in the summer of 2007. Until 2013, he was sent on different loan spells to Watford, Peterborough, Bristol City and Sunderland.

Since then, the left-back has made 214 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring 10 goals and providing 29 assists. He has also featured in 29 games for the England national team and was part of the Great Britain Olympics team in 2012. And now, he has been sent on loan to Newcastle for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have an established left-back in Ben Davies, who featured in 6 league games this season but has been out of action due to an ankle injury. They also signed Ryan Sessegnon last summer and the youngster has been deployed mainly on the left side of the defence.

Sessegnon has been brilliant for Spurs at the back while also contributing to the attack. He is just 19 and could be used as an understudy to Davies once the Welshman returns. At the same time, Japhet Tanganga, who was recently promoted to the senior team, has also shown his capacity to play in that position.

Though he is a centre-back by trade, Tanganga has featured as a left-back in a few games. He was at his best against Liverpool and Manchester City. Therefore, Tottenham don’t need another left-back since they already have three players for this position. And Danny Rose must be allowed to leave the club in the summer.

The 29-year-old hasn’t been able to contribute much in the league so far. And has fallen down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho. Over the last three seasons, he has racked up just 5 assists in the league.

Rose has also lost his place in the English national squad. Hence, moving to France would be a good option.

Verdict

Tottenham would be doing no good by keeping hold of the Englishman. Therefore, as Rose’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, the club must part ways with him in the summer.
