Why Tanguy Ndombele to Liverpool would bolster their midfield
As per Foot Mercato (h/t The Express), Liverpool are interested in signing Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele in the summer.
Ndombele, 23, is a product of EA Guingamp’s youth academy. After a year with Amiens’ senior set-up, he moved to Lyon in the summer of 2017. He immediately became an integral member of the club and was one of the most sought-after youngsters last season.
His performances with Lyon attracted a lot of interest before Tottenham won the race to sign him. However, he has failed to live up to the expectations. The report suggests that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is willing to let the Frenchman leave. Thus, Liverpool should make a move for him this summer.
The Reds, meanwhile, have dominated the Premier League in the past two seasons. Though they missed out on the league title last season by just a point, they claimed the Champions League trophy and have been brilliant this term.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have lost just one league game this season and are currently on course to lift the title for the first time in the modern era. Liverpool are currently atop the league standings, 25 points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
However, with the new season not far away, the Reds boss Klopp should consider bringing in reinforcements to key areas. The manager should make sure that there is depth in every area if they are to build on their dominance in the future.
Ndombele – A future leader in the midfield for Liverpool
The Reds have a plethora of midfield talents in their ranks in Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Adam Lallana and Naby Keita. Henderson has been the engine of the team and Wijnaldum and Oxlade-Chamberlain have also been excellent.
However, Keita has failed to find form and Lallana could be on the move given his contract is set to expire. Milner is 34 and is reaching the back end of his career. Thus, Liverpool need to strengthen their midfield, and bringing in a youngster would be a wise decision.
In that regard, signing Ndombele would do them a world of good. Though he has not lived up to the expectations with Tottenham, he has already shown his potential with Lyon, providing 7 assists in his last season with the French outfit. He is just 23 and has a lot of room for development.
Under the guidance of Klopp, Ndombele might regain his form and his inclusion would also bring healthy competition. He would also definitely add depth to Klopp’s side.

Verdict
At 23, he has a huge future ahead of him. At the same time, Lallana’s departure and Milner’s age should prompt Liverpool to make a move for the Frenchman. And if he is able to replicate the good form he showed with Lyon, he could also represent them in the long run. Thus, the Reds should lure him to Anfield this summer.
