Ander Herrera Manchester United

Manchester United had an inconsistent season. The Red Devils finished 2nd in the league scoring 81 points from 38 games. Their efforts were in vain as there was no stopping Manchester City from their commanding march to the title.

City finished their season as champions, 19 points above 2nd-placed Manchester United. The Red Devils also lost to 1-0 to Chelsea in the FA Cup final, courtesy of a goal from Eden Hazard, who calmly slotted home his penalty after the attacker was brought down in the box by Phil Jones.

United often put in sub-par performances for a team that consists of a star-studded line-up. The likes of Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba were far too inconsistent throughout the season, although new signing Lukaku enjoyed a successful first campaign, making 34 appearances in the league, scoring 16 goals and providing 7 assists.

Jose Mourinho will now be looking to prepare for the next Premier League campaign after this summer’s World Cup in Russia. The Red Devils will be aiming to bounce back from their mistakes to mount a strong title challenge next season.

United have already completed the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Fred for a reported fee of around £52million. The Brazilian has been selected for the national team to compete in the World Cup this summer but picked up an injury in training which ended his chances of playing in Russia.

Either way, the Brazilian will join up with the Man United squad after the World Cup, which throws a few other United players’ futures up in the air.

One such player who is reportedly interested in making a move away from Old Trafford is Ander Herrera. The Spanish midfielder joined Manchester United from Athletic Bilbao in 2014, going on to make a total of 110 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals and providing 14 assists.

The Spanish international has found game time hard to come by with the likes of Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic in the squad. He made just 26 appearances for the club this past season, scoring no goals and providing just 2 assists.

His performance level has certainly reduced over the years but the player is often praised for his passion and commitment on the field. A very hard working player who never gives up, Ander Herrera would be a great addition to any side.

The midfielder has been linked with his former club Athletic Bilbao and could make a sensational return to Spain. A move away from Old Trafford would do the player a world of good. The Bilbao fans would be more than welcome to have him back, with the midfielder’s time at Old Trafford certainly coming to an end.
