Why signing Adrian Embarba would be a boost to Norwich City

According to claims from Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, as cited by The Pink Un, Norwich City have been linked with a move for Spanish winger Adrian Embarba, who currently plies his trade with Rayo Vallecano in the Segunda Division.

The 27-year-old has plundered an impressive tally of 7 goals and 11 assists in 22 appearances for Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish second-tier so far this season.

The Madrid-born winger, who contributed with 5 goals and 6 assists in 36 appearances in the La Liga last season, was one of the shining lights of Rayo’s relegation campaign in the Spanish top-flight, and Embarba has taken that form into the Segunda Division this term.

Rayo Vallecano have been through a switch between the La Liga and the La Liga 2 over the past few years but Embarba, who joined the club back in 2013, has carved out a name for himself in both the divisions.

Embarba boasts of an eye-catching record of 22 goals and 28 assists in 98 career appearances for Vallecano in the Spanish second-tier while his tally of 10 goals and 13 assists in 89 La Liga outings still makes for some decent readings.

The diminutive wide player is often deployed in a wide attacking role on the right-hand side of the pitch but he has illustrated the versatility to switch to a more conventional role on the left.

However, with Norwich still languishing rock-bottom of the standings, they have an awful lot of work to do during the all-important second half of the campaign.

As per the report, Farke has ruled out any central defensive additions during the last couple of weeks of the January window but has hinted that City will continue to look for reinforcements in the wide attacking areas and also in the No.10 slot.

To that end, Norwich City’s links with Adrian Embarba certainly makes sense. Despite Duda putting in an explosive performance on his debut against Bournemouth alongside the likes of Emiliano Buendia, Todd Cantwell and Teemu Pukki, there isn’t a lot of quality depth on the bench.

Marco Stiepermann looked like a glaring misfit earlier in the campaign while Onel Hernandez, Josip Drmic and Dennis Srbeny have all proven to be equally ineffective. Hence, an injury to Cantwell, Duda or Buendia could once again give Farke some major headaches heading into the hectic second half of the campaign where fixtures are going to come thick and fast.

Verdict

With that in mind, the acquisition of a versatile wide player like Adrian Embarba would add some valuable depth and cover for the Canaries in the final third. Also, it is imperative to say that the 27-year-old has the know-how of fighting relegation battles, having previously held his own at Rayo Vallecano in the La Liga.
