Why Shon Weissman would be a fantastic addition to Celtic

Former Liverpool star Ronny Rosenthal has urged Celtic to make a quick move for Wolfsberger star Shon Weissman, according to The Sunday Post.

The report suggests that the Israeli striker has been on the radars of Celtic for a long time but the Scottish giants could face competition to secure his services. Clubs like Real Valladolid and Leeds United are also keen on signing Weissman.

Born in Israel, Weissman started his journey with Hapoel Haifa before rising through the ranks of Maccabi Haifa. However, he spent the majority of his career on loan with clubs like Maccabi Netanya and Kiryat Shmona. He returned to his parent club in the summer of 2018 and scored 9 goals across all competition that season before joining Wolfsberger last summer.

Since his arrival in Austria, the 24-year-old has been in sensational form. He finished as the league’s top scorer with 30 goals. His impressive performances also earned him a call-up to the Israel national team last September.

Weissman could lead Celtic’s attack

At the moment, Neil Lennon has a plethora of attacking talents available at his disposal. Odsonne Edouard has been their star striker and led them brilliantly in the title-winning campaign. Apart from him, the Hoops also have Patryk Klimala and Leigh Griffiths. Both of them have done a decent job whenever called upon.

And Swiss international Albian Ajeti was also signed last month from West Ham to bolster their squad. However, Edouard has been linked with a move elsewhere. Should he leave in the coming months, Celtic would be short of a prolific striker. Thus, a centre-forward would be a good decision if Edouard leaves.

In that regard, making a move for Weissman would be a wise decision. The Israeli international has been in the form of his life and could lead Celtic’s attack if Edouard leaves in the near future. He has the ability to succeed at Celtic and could fill in the void if the Frenchman departs.

Weissman’s addition to the Lennon’s squad would definitely provide them with depth, whilst also bringing in healthy competition. And he could provide them with the quality upfront. The Israeli is just 24 and has a lot more to offer in the future.

Verdict

With Edouard linked with an exit and Griffiths ageing, it would be wise if Celtic bring in a centre-forward. And Weissman, who is in the form of his life, could provide them with quality. He could go on to represent them in the long run if he is able to replicate his good form. Thus, the Hoops should manage to lure him to Celtic Park this summer.
