Why Real Madrid should sign Benoit Badiashile for the future

According to AS (h/t The Sun), Real Madrid are eyeing a move for AS Monaco starlet Benoit Badiashile ahead of next season.

Badiashile, 19, spent time at the academies of Limoges and SC Malesherbes before joining Monaco’s youth system in 2016. He excelled with the French outfit’s youth sides and also captained the U19 team before getting promoted to the senior set-up last season. The youngster made his senior debut in November 2018 and since then, he has gone on to make 46 appearances for Monaco.

The teenager has impressed so far in Ligue 1 and has also attracted the attention of several clubs across Europe. Manchester City and Wolves are also interested in securing the services of Badiashile, as per the report. Thus, the La Liga giants should make a swift move for the teenager.

Badiashile could be a future leader in Madrid’s defence

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane must strengthen his backline. Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane have been instrumental in the heart of the Madrid defence. This season, they conceded just 22 goals in La Liga, which is the lowest among Europe’s top five leagues.

Apart from Varane and Ramos, they do have Eder Militao in central defence but the Brazilian hasn’t been up to the mark, casting doubts over his future at the Spanish capital. Moreover, club captain Ramos is already 34 and reaching the twilight of his career. Thus, they need to sign a youngster who could replace the Spaniard in the future.

In that regard, Badiashile would be a sensible signing for the club. The French U19 international has already shown immense potential at a high level despite his tender age. He still has a lot of room for development and under the guidance of Zidane, he could grow.

The teenager made 20 Ligue 1 appearances last season and continued with the fine form this term, making 16 appearances before the league season in France was brought to a premature halt. He is one of the best young prospects in the country and if he is able to replicate the form he has shown so far, he could be a good signing for Real Madrid.

Verdict

With Ramos already into the final stages of his career and Militao not at his best, Madrid should bring in reinforcements to their defence. And investing in the youth would definitely help them reap rewards in the future. Thus, they should manage to lure Badiashile to Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
