Why Real Madrid should go all out and sign Fabian Ruiz

According to Calciomercato (h/t The Express), Real Madrid are willing to pay £59m to sign Fabian Ruiz as boss Zinedine Zidane wants to act quickly in securing his services.

Ruiz, 23, joined Real Betis’ youth system in 2014 and came through their ranks. His loan spell at Elche in 2017 helped his development and when he returned to his parent club at that time, Carlo Ancelotti signed him for Napoli in the summer of 2018.

In his first season at Naples, he scored 8 goals and provided 3 assists in 40 games across all competitions. This term, he has developed into a complete player, who has taken over in the right fashion from Napoli legend Marek Hamsik, who moved to China with Dalian Yifang.

The Spaniard has been impressive in the last two seasons and his performances also earned him a call up to the national side. He made his debut for Spain last July and has one goal to his name in 6 international games, helping them qualify for the Euro 2020 tournament.

Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane’s men started the season on a high note but seem to have lost track in the last few weeks. Their loss at home to Levante has put them 2 points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona and the loss to Manchester City in the Champions League has put their hopes of European glory in doubt.

They need to perform at a higher level as they are one of the top teams in Europe and the manager should reinforce the squad with some new faces in the summer. The midfield is one area where they must be strong and Zidane would do better with young guns at his disposal.

Toni Kroos has been wonderful over the years but James Rodriguez has completely fallen out of favour under the boss. And Luka Modric, 34, seems to be at the end of his career. Therefore, Fabian Ruiz should be added to the team as early as the summer.

Predominantly a central midfielder, Ruiz is also adept at playing anywhere on the left. He has shown great character while being deployed in a No. 10 role, which would be of utmost help to the strikers present in Los Blancos’ squad. His presence in the middle of the park would only enhance the quality of Madrid’s attack.

The 23-year-old has impressed with his tremendous technique and intelligence on the field and has all the qualities of a potential future star.

The Spanish international would be a great long-term prospect since he is just 23. Therefore, the La Liga giants must make a swift move for Ruiz and lure him to Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
