Why Real Madrid made the right choice by loaning out Reinier Jesus
According to ESPN, Real Madrid youngster Reinier Jesus has joined Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan deal.
The 18-year-old had earlier moved to the Bernabeu from Brazilian side Flamengo in January in a deal worth £25million. Primarily an attacking midfielder Reinier is comfortable playing on both the wings.
Reinier, however, has not yet made his debut for Madrid due to La Liga’s registration rules which prevent him from joining Zinedine Zidane’s first-team.
He cannot make the move from the second team to the senior side because of a limit of three non-EU players in first-team squad, which at present are occupied by Vinicius, Rodrygo, and Eder Militao.
With first-team opportunities clearly out of his reach at the moment, Real Madrid decided to ship him out on loan to Bundesliga outfit Dortmund. However, the deal does not include an option for the Bundesliga club to buy him, meaning he would once again be available for Madrid at the end of his contract. (h/t ESPN)
Despite not yet featuring for their main team, Renier already gave a glimpse of his attacking talents by scoring two goals from three matches for Madrid’s reserve team Castilla before coronavirus stopped play.
Real Madrid will not be affected by the departure of Reinier
Madrid, on the other hand, have had an impressive league season as they emerged La Liga champions after a gap of three years. Los Blancos seemed well-oiled in all departments as they put themselves back on top in the Spanish top division.
At the moment, they have as many as five attacking midfielders in their squad, with the in-form Martin Odegaard being recalled from his loan spell at Real Sociedad by Zidane. Odegaard’s impressive form last season forced the French boss to bring him back to Bernabeu.
Apart from Odegaard, they already have an established playmaker in Isco, while the likes of Luka Modric and Brahim Diaz can also play in the attacking midfield role. James Rodriguez is also an option, provided he stays at the club. Thus, Reinier’s departure is not going to affect them much next season.
Moreover, it makes sense for the young Brazilian to get some game time under his belt by moving to a top club like Dortmund rather than spending time unnecessarily warming the benches at Bernabeu. Hence, Madrid’s decision to send Reinier out on loan seems like a win-win situation for both parties.

Verdict
Real Madrid currently have enough depth in their attacking midfield role. So, sending out a rising talent like Reinier on loan will do them no harm. Moreover, it will only help him gain more first-team opportunities and prepare him for the upcoming challenges at Bernabeu.
