Why Paco Alcacer would be an excellent signing for Newcastle United

According to The Sun, Newcastle United are trying to seal a move for Bundesliga striker Paco Alcacer on a loan deal from Borussia Dortmund.

Alcacer, 26, has scored 5 goals in 11 league games this season but since then, he has struggled for game time due to fitness issues. He has been a brilliant signing for the German outfit and in 47 games, he has scored 26 goals and provided 4 assists.

The former Valencia man struggled for game time at Barcelona, racking up just 50 appearances in two seasons at Camp Nou. And with Luiz Suarez in their ranks, Alcacer’s had no chance to make it regularly.

In his first term at Dortmund, the Spaniard scored 19 goals and when he looked to get going, an injury forced him out of action. The club’s recruitment of Erling Haaland, who has scored 5 goals in his first two games, has pushed Alcacer closer to the exit door.

The report also adds that Alcacer is keen on a fresh start after becoming disillusioned with the Bundesliga and along with the Magpies, Valencia also want him back.

Meanwhile, Steve Bruce’s side, who looked stronger mid-way through the season, have slipped to 14th in the league table after some inconsistent performances. They were in the top half of the table but haven’t managed to cling onto that in recent weeks. And the manager would know he has a lot of work to do and must bring in reinforcements this month to ensure safety.

Though the Toon have shown stability at the back, they have scored only 24 goals in as many league games this season. And this is a major concern for Bruce, who needs to sort out the attacking issues.

Summer recruit Joelinton has struggled to find the back of the net, scoring just once until now. While Yoshinori Muto and Andy Carroll have been injured, former Crystal Palace man Dwight Gayle hasn’t been up to the standards of the Premier League in this campaign. Therefore, adding a centre-forward will be crucial this month and Newcastle must go for Paco Alcacer.

The 26-year-old was at his best last season, scoring 18 Bundesliga goals and Dortmund just missed out on the title to champions Bayern Munich. He made an instant impact at the club, which struggled to find a proper finisher after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang departed.

He could form a fruitful partnership with Joelinton if he replicates what he did for Dortmund last season.

Verdict

Though the Spaniard is prone to injuries, his quality could definitely benefit Bruce. And if the manager is willing to take chance on Alcacer, it could prove to be crucial for the club in the latter stages, given his previous record.

Therefore, Newcastle must go all out to secure his service by beating Valencia, who are also interested in their former player, according to the report.
