Why Newcastle United should sign Alfredo Morelos to add firepower to their attack

As per Football Insider (h/t The Shields Gazette), Newcastle United have been urged to sign Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos by ex-England striker Darren Bent.

Morelos, 23, joined Scottish giants Rangers in the summer of 2017 from Finnish outfit HJK Helsinki and has established himself as one of the top strikers in the Premiership. He has been a regular member of the squad right from his arrival in the country, racking up 14 and 17 goals respectively in his first two league seasons.

The Colombian has been in scintillating form this season and could be on the move, with several clubs including Atletico Madrid and Newcastle United interested in him.

Meanwhile, Steve Bruce’s men have been inconsistent throughout the campaign. They were in the top half of the table until Christmas but have slipped to he 13th position in the league standings after just one win out of their last 6 league games.

The manager brought in Valentino Lazaro, Nabil Bentaleb and Danny Rose on loan in January to boost their squad but that has made little changes to their fortunes. One of the chief reasons for their lacklustre performance is the lack of consistency in front of goal.

Summer signing Joelinton has netted just 1 goal in the league after a fine 2018/19 season with Hoffenheim in Germany. He has also not got the right support up front with Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto all of them underperforming.

However, this summer transfer window would be the right time for Bruce to bring in reinforcements to the squad. And a striker must be the top priority for the manager. In that regard, Rangers star Alfredo Morelos would be a good fit at St. James’ Park.

Morelos is in the form of his, having already found the back of the net 29 times in 45 games across all competitions. He would undoubtedly bring his experience to the Magpies squad, whilst adding quality to the attacking unit.

The Colombian international has scored a whopping 77 goals in 137 games for Rangers in the last three seasons. At the age of 23, he still has a lot more to offer at a higher level and could succeed in the Premier League given his goalscoring prowess.

Verdict

Morelos has been scoring regularly for the past three seasons and can be a useful addition to Bruce’s squad. He would definitely provide them with the much-needed extra goals and can help them improve their goals tally next season.

Therefore, Newcastle should lure the Colombian to St. James’ Park in the summer and he could represent them in the long run.
