Why Gareth Bale to Newcastle United would bolster their attack

As per Marca (h/t Daily Mail), Newcastle United have made Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale their priority signing ahead of the summer.

Bale, 30, came through the ranks of Southampton’s youth system and joined Tottenham in the summer of 2007. He established himself as one of the best wingers in the Premier League before moving to Real Madrid in 2013.

He is one of the world-class forwards in Europe and has won several titles with Los Blancos, including 4 Champions League trophies. However, he has fallen out of favour under Zinedine Zidane. Thus, Newcastle United should lure the Welshman to their side this summer.

The Magpies, meanwhile, have endured a disappointing campaign so far. Despite being within the top half of the table until Christmas, Steve Bruce’s men have stooped low in the latter stages of the league.

They have been dumped out of the EFL Cup, whilst also finding themselves in 13th position in the league table. Newcastle have won just 2 of their last 11 league games before the league got suspended due to the pandemic.

One of the chief reasons for their downfall is the lack of consistency in front of goal. The Magpies have managed just 25 goals so far, which is the lowest in the league this term. The strikers have barely put their foot right and they also haven’t got enough support from the midfield.

Thus, the Magpies boss Bruce should look to bring in reinforcements to the squad once the takeover is completed. They need to make sure that they are well equipped with players in each department to perform better in further campaigns.

Bale could provide Newcastle’s attack with the required force

Apart from strikers, the manager should also look to bring in wingers to the squad who can provide enough from the wide areas. Allan Saint-Maximin and Christian Atsu are the only two established wingers available at the manager’s disposal and Miguel Almiron is also deployed on the right wing.

Saint-Maximin looked to get going as he picked up the pace but he fell victim to an injury and was sidelined for the best part of the campaigns. Atsu has featured in just 18 games, mostly starting from the bench and has provided just 3 assists so far. The Magpies have lacked consistency in their attack.

In that regard, signing Bale from Real Madrid could make them powerful in attack. The Welshman has been successful in his time in Spain except for the last two seasons, where he has struggled with injuries. He has been a key player for the La Liga giants and could be a valuable player for the Magpies if he joins them.

The Welsh international has made nearly 500 career appearances at the highest level and his inclusion in Bruce’s squad would be a massive boost. He could also provide them with much-needed goals, which are evident from the 105 goals he has scored for Los Blancos in addition to the 67 assists.

Verdict

At 30, Bale still has the energy to play at a high level and Newcastle are in dire need of forwards to make their attack powerful. And Bale could be a crucial player for them next season if he is able to keep himself away from injuries. Thus, the Magpies should make a move for the Welsh international this summer.
