Why Marco Asensio can be a wonderful signing for Manchester United

According to The Sun, Manchester United could well be the next destination for Marco Asensio. With limited opportunities and a bit-part role in the Blancos’ side, speculation is rife that he could be heading towards an exit. Inter Milan, Manchester City and even rivals Atletico Madrid could be among the clubs where he could go.

Starting out at Platges de Calvia in 2003, Marco Asensio then went on to RCD Mallorca’s youth academy after 3 years. He spent most of his youth career at Mallorca and it was only in 2012 that he was promoted to the U-19 side. Within one season, he was bumped up to the ‘B’ side and during that time, he was often called up to the senior side.

His impressive form in those seasons prompted Real Madrid to sign him. However, he was immediately sent on loan to Espanyol in 2015. The good run of form continued there too and on his return to Real, he was given a chance to showcase his talent.

He grabbed that with both hands and made himself indispensable to the side and was a huge part of Blancos’ success during those years. In 161 appearances for Real Madrid, he has scored 30 goals and assisted 20. A full international for Spain, Asensio has made 26 appearances for them so far.

Asensio would add quality and depth at Manchester United

Manchester United are flying high right now as they are 3rd in the table. While the whole team does deserve credit, it often feels like they are too reliant on individual brilliance of a few players. Players like Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes have often had to bail the side out.

The biggest concern from that scenario is the burnout of Bruno Fernandes. The mercurial Portuguese has been a huge driving factor for the side ever since his arrival and has played in almost every game without much rest. Adding another superstar player should be on the club’s agenda.

Marco Asensio offers them just that. He burst onto the scene in 2017 and took the world by storm. Things have cooled down in recent seasons, with Real Madrid facing some tough times. Nonetheless, his talent remains unquestionable. At just 26, he has enough time to regain his old form.

His ability to play on either wing as well as in attacking midfield will be a huge asset to the Red Devils. It would not only add depth but a lot of quality to the side if they can somehow prise away the once crown jewel of Real Madrid.
