Why Manchester United should make a move for Ismaila Sarr

Former Manchester United star Gary Neville has urged the club to make a move for Watford youngster Ismaila Sarr as an alternative for Englishman Jadon Sancho, who is valued at over £100m by Borussia Dortmund, according to The Metro.

Sarr, 22, spent seven years at the academy of Generation foot in his homeland before joining French outfit Metz in the summer of 2016 on a free transfer. In his first season in Europe, he impressed with 5 goals and 5 assists in Ligue 1 and earned a move to Stade Rennes, where he made 77 appearances, scoring 18 goals and providing 16 assists.

Last Summer, Watford signed him for £25m and the winger has displayed some eye-catching performances in his debut season in English football. Sarr has done well despite the Hornets’ poor campaign and could be a cheaper option for United in the place of Sancho.

Sarr could add depth to Man United’s flank

At the moment, Jesse Lingard and Tahith Chong are the two right-wingers available at Solskjaer’s disposal. However, both have failed miserably whenever they received opportunities. Lingard is yet to contribute with a goal or an assist in the league this term.

As a result, Daniel James was used on the right side of the attack. The Welshman initially did well but has gone without any significant contribution for quite a long time. Young Mason Greenwood has now occupied the spot and is enjoying his breakthrough season. However, with a lack of options on the right side, a winger is needed in the summer.

In that regard, Sarr would be a viable option for the club. The Senegalese international has racked up 5 goals and 5 assists in his debut season with the club and has shown immense potential. He is capable of causing damage to the opponent’s defence and that was visible in the game against Liverpool in February, where he scored 2 goals and provided an assist in Watford’s 3-0 win.

He is just 22 and has a lot of room for development. With experience, he would be able to fulfil his potential. His inclusion would add depth to the squad, whilst also bringing healthy competition.

Verdict

With Lingard and Chong completely out of form, United need to bring in wingers to the squad and bolster their attacking options. And Sarr could also provide them with some much-needed extra goals. Thus, they should lure the former Metz man to Old Trafford this summer.
