Man United signing this proven 28-year-old Danish star would be nothing but a waste

Why Manchester United should pass up on Christian Eriksen

According to Football.london, Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Christian Eriksen on loan. The Danish playmaker has been unable to settle in at Inter Milan since making the move a year ago and a return to the Premier League could be on the cards. Spurs are also said to be open to bringing back their former ace.

Eriksen is horribly out of form

Eriksen’s form has been pretty much on the decline over the past year or so. The 28-year-old managed an ordinary return of seven goals and six assists last season despite making 54 appearances for Tottenham and Inter Milan combined. And he is yet to open his account for goals or assists in 14 appearances this season.

While his experience in the Premier League would be a plus point, the Dane’s declining form means that his signing is fraught with risk. Furthermore, quite where he would fit into Solskjaer’s side is also a major issue.

Manchester United don’t need another playmaker

While Eriksen is a tremendous player to have in your ranks, Manchester United clearly don’t need him at this point. The club are overstocked in the midfield to the point that new signing Donny Van De Beek is warming the benches.

The former Spurs playmaker mostly plays in an attacking midfield role, which is currently occupied by Bruno Fernandes. There are pretty much zero chances that someone can oust the mercurial Portuguese playmaker from that spot given how much he has contributed to the team.

Adding another attacking midfielder means that it will just add to the long line of central attacking midfielders already at the club. There are the likes of Paul Pogba, Donny Van De Beek, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard waiting in line.

With all due respect to Eriksen’s talents, he would be surplus to requirements at United. Sure he can play on the wings and a variety of other positions but unless he magically conjures up the ability to play on the right wing, there is no point for Manchester United to sign him, even if it’s on loan.

Eriksen is a quality player with a lot of experience and proven pedigree in the Premier League. However, the 28-year-old’s powers have been on the wane of late. Add to it, he might not even get regular starts in the side. Thus, the Red Devils would be better off staying away from such a move.
